As per my newbie post, this is what has put me and my missus back into mini ownership.

It is, apparently an early Cooper Conversion, number 105 RF 100090, with the cert, and a brochure with the details of the conversion available.

Now, as far as my history goes these were applied to Jap mini's and a group of 998 Flame, Checkmate and the other 89 version i can't think of. Then, as they sold well they did the 1275 coopers, etc.

I have a 998cc engine, with the twin 1 1/4 carbs, and filters, what looks like the LCB is still in place, the exhaust has been changed. It does have minilights, and a cream interior, and a john cooper steering wheel.

Now here is where i'm lost.

It's Racing Green, has no JC plaque near the drivers side, the chassis number is an 84 City E shell, paint code is PMA.

Now the car left the factory with G143 THS, then 7 AGD, and now it has a Gxxx ESB.

My thoughts are that either A) It's a really good spray job, no red anywhere, or B) It's been reshelled.
The doors do have bars in.

The engine no is a 99HF16, so fits, but not sure on the Cooper conversion numbers.

The log book states Mini Racg Flame Checkmate.

I just need the leather re-trimmed to be honest.

PS, Hello.

Lazy Rover dealers couldn't be bothered to register them properly (there were a few different LE's being sold at the same time), so they just put that incorrectly on the V5's.

Anyway this might provide some help: -

There was indeed a 1989 run of the limited edition Mini Flame Red and Racing Green (along with the Mini Sky and Rose LE's): -

But there was a second run of the Mini Flame Red and Racing Green during 1990 and they were accompanied with the Mini Checkmate. The main difference with the 1990 versions was that they came with Rover Minilite style alloy wheels as standard and the sportier 3.44 final drive: -

PMA paint code means its a black car, i.e. 'Black - PMA (BLVC90) Years: 69-89'.

Perhaps new type door were fitted complete with the side impact bars?

Yes after checking the engine number against this site: -

The engine number looks about right for a 1990 Mini Racking Green LE: -

Source Vehicle : Mini
Engine type & CC : A+ 998 cc Transverse mounted
Fueling :
Engine features :
6/16 Speedo drives
Servo Assisted Brakes
1st Alternative compression ratio
95 Ron Unleaded petrol
Pre-engaged starter
ADO 20 Design variants
Gearbox features :
Std. Ratio Rod Change gearbox with Pot Joints
3.44:1 Final Drive

Apart from that, all the John Cooper Conversion information and parts got passed on to this company which is run by an ex-JCG employee: -

It's exactly right, the Racing/Flame/Checkmate series had F16 type engines.

When you say the chassis number relates to an earlier City shell do you mean the number in the gutter or the number on the VIN plate and V5? Do they match up or not?

Wow!, What a response!

Taffy - Thanks I have that exact brochure with the history, Those other articles are pretty cool i thought the engine number looked spot on, although it doesn't state it's a 'Cooper' head, it is unleaded.

Dan - The VIN plate matches the V5, and the Rover service book, and all MOT's, dating back the 1998 i think, all green by the way.

From memory are you talking about the gulley by the scuttle, between the wipers?, if so i couldn't see anything in there.

Fraz - That was my thought, the VIN's must have been assigned to all the std shells before they became special editions.

Thanks all, fingers crossed she'll clean up nicely, and i can find a re-trimmer that won't make me bend over and cry!
