Hey, I have debumpered my mini front and back and have been thinking bout what I could possibly do for my rear fog light. The car is a '94 so does need one as a legal requirement. I didn't really want to use one like the original (hanging under the rear valance), so I am trying to find something different. I thought of maybe trying to find a small LED strip to use and setting into the rear valance, or something like that. I would be greatful for any ideas or pics you may have to try and help me come up with something defferent.

Cheers,

Chris >_<

Google the construction and use regulations or SVA, it will have to be a certain size and brightness. I think there's a good chance you could put it in the rear window.

Cheers, I'll have a gander at that. It would probably be alot easier to stick it in the window too.

i think it was panelbeaterpeter that used a peugoet 306 rear fog blended into the rear valance, looks reaally good too!

Also the rear window idea is good and keeps the back end looking smooth (Y)

lol yeah.

Don't think you'd be able to get away with one in the rear screen, fog lights can only go upto a certain height

I'm pretty sure it's 1 meter so the bottom of the screen should be ok. Combined fog/high level brake light?

It can't be a combined fog and stop lamp for the same reason that it can't be in the rear light cluster, there must be 100mm between the illuminated area of any fog guard and stop lamp. Also it can't just be any lamp of the right size and brightness, or any old strip of LEDs. The lamp must be E marked and tested as a fog lamp. They can go in the rear screen quite legitimately, as Ethel says the maximum height is 1m. You do have to bear in mind the glare from it reflecting off the glass that will fill the car when the fog lamp is on. It should probably be shrouded to the glass all around to stop the reflection bothering you.

Yeah, I just had a look and you are allowed the light a maximum of 1.0m above the ground, so the back window is looking like a strong possibility. However, I just had a look at the pug 206 rear fog light and I like the shape of it so I'll look into that further, I don't think it would be too hard to do.

Yeah, I had thought about how that would be interpreted in the regulations. I meant it could be used as a brake light or switched permanently on to be a fog light. The circuit would need to be a little bit crafty to leave the original brake lights unchanged.

Cheers for that Dan, the distance between the fog light and brake light was another thing I was unsureabout. the back window does sound like the best place to put it. It would keep the nice smooth look of the rear end too. Wouldn't be too hard to fabricate some sort of unit to put it in, I could use foam rubber strips to seal it to the window to stop light escaping I suppose.

Or just buy a brake light as they have the same output (21w). Any light under the bumper line would be ok too.
