ive never had trouble with emmisions?
This is totaly getting off the subject anyway!!
It was an opinion he asked for and thats what i gave. Everyone has there own opinions, and they're not always going to be the same!!
Ive got a ford focus st, but not everyone likes fords!
I didnt say go for either, it's all about personal choice!

Looking at the failed power steering pump in the first video posted above, I wouldn't have thought it would be life threatening at all? I mean, you can still steer the thing, right?

Cheers.

Yes, but it could be very dangerous when some bimbo whose travelling way too fast around a corner or roundabout suddenly loses her power steering and ends up on the kerb or something?

So yes, I'd say it's pretty serious and something to worry about anyway.

my wife picked up her FIAT 500 in december and she even sold her MPI which was pristine to buy it! She wouldn't consider any other car once she had test drove one and shes very pleased with it.

Personally i think it is a very nicely put together car, handles well and even with the 1.2 petrol engine it is responsive enough around town and it is still very capable on the motorway.

Just looking at how much road tax is paid for the 500, and the 1.2 is only 35 quid a year, which seems cool. And if my mummy did buy one, she'd only use it for city driving most of the time, and I'm surprised that you say it's capable on the motorway. Perchance, is your 500 well specced?

Price of tax is going to be a consideration, but if its a car as new as the 500, you could probably negotiate a couple hundred quid off during the initial banter before purchase (private or not) to compensate pre a sale!

Just like Jonesy, my missus has a 1.2 500, in Lounge spec. Its a great little car, she's had it almost a year and its now done 16,000 miles, as she has a long commute to work everyday.

Its not been trouble free ownership, but the only things that have been problematic have been one of the front washer jets, which inexplicably broke and stopped doing its job, and the heater fan which developed a slight vibration on low speed settings. Both were repaired without fuss under warranty, and the work in total took around 2 hours. Jen got another 500 as a courtesy car, and the customer service from our local Fiat garage was excellent.

We actually used the car to go to the Malvern show today, which is a 200 mile round trip for us, and also did a little trip out during the day. I drove all day, was very comfy, and at the end of the journey wasn't at all knackered like I would have been in some other cars.

Incidentally, the tax on the 1.2 is £35 per year (as already mentioned), we get between 45-50mpg out of it depending on how heavy Jen is on the throttle, and its plenty quick enough to keep up with motorway traffic, it never feels out of its depth even at 70-80mph.

Hope that helps a bit.

Tom

If you look on you tube there is actually someone with one on the nurburgring!!

We have one as a daily commute and its been fantastic, i would advise to save the money on the Lounge/sport and get the pop.
Its 7800 GBP in comparison to 9300 GBP and you get loads of stuff standard anyway. Then spend 300 on the better alloys and roberts your mothers brother.

just dont get cha cha blue.....

Ours sounds like exactly the same spec as Tom's!! 1.2 Lounge Model. So lots of chrome!! we only do about 2-3k miles a year so doubt it'll have any problems! One thing to watch out for though.... There is a switch on the dash that has a steering wheel symbol on it! when it is on the steering gets MUCH lighter! Definitely a good idea to ensure it is off when on the motorway as the handling definitely suffers with it on!!

I would agree but you know what it's like when buying a car for a woman! they like nice shiney bits!! lol!

As for Cha Cha Blue.... it's the free blue and is known in the trade as the kiss of death for any car! also this particular blue is god awful!! lol Mrsmadjonesy went for Mod Blue which is quite nice but if i had had the choice it would have been yellow, white or red!

If you're looking at that size car, have you thought about the Toyota iQ? Really cool, quirky but premium feeling car! It's got 4 seats, comes fully loaded with spec including something stupid like 9 airbags!!!

And tax is freeeeeeeeeeee

Could be worth a look?
