Just looking for some confirmation as I suspect that the oil seal around the crank has gone (new in build 700 miles ago!).

Drove a couple of hours on dual carriageway tonight and was getting loads of slipping after roundabouts in 3rd and 4th. Cd sized patch under that part of the engine about 2 mins after pulling up at home and it has been leaking more and more of late.

Seals were new as was clutch.

If it is that, how much would a garage charge in labour to fit the new part? I just do not have time at the moment.

Ta!

What to change the primary seal ????

Experience Mini mechanic, with the correct tools should have it done in 2-3 hours...

Just had a look at the 'Rover' service schedule for a clutch plate and seal... and that's for a Rover Mechanic which may not be Mini savvy

what engine are your running and does the clutch suit the power output of the engine? cause it could be that you just need a higher spec oil seal that is more resistant to leaking because of the higher output of engines.

There's only one oil seal you should be using, the orange one... that black one which was used on the later Mpi's are shocking on higher performance engines.. however I'll openly admit there are different manufacturers which affects the quality of the seal... I use ANGUS GACO made seals both for gearbox and Primary seals.

I was charged £300 for parts and labour on my mini, that included a new verto clutch kit and the seal, just a shame it didn't fix the problem as the problem was high crankcase pressure (caused by worn rings), pushing oil through the seal.

It could also be that the seal was installed incorrectly, i've heard they are very sensitive and should be protected from the primary gear as its pushed into place as the surface of the seal is very weak/sensitive.

Yes you would be correct, the 190mm plate is the correct one for the late 'Rover' 1275s :(

Ah. I def have the 180mm one but that was from reading through various articles and a quick check with Minispares.

I already have a spare fly and new clutch plate anyway so would only be paying for the seal and labour.
