I regularly have to helicoil gearboxes, but I do all mine when the box is completely stripped so the large amount of swarf can be removed from the box safely.

To helicoil while the engine is in the car is very fiddly especially when you're wielding a drill with a 16.5mm bit on the end, and will introduce ali' swarf into the box ( you'll never get it all out ).

Thats what i am worried about, and i need to get my car back on the road asap,
I am learning to drive in it, and its my 17th birthday in a couple of days :cry:
If done properly, the self tapper shouldnt crack the casting, and if it does crack, Its a good excuse to fit a better engine, Mines pritty knackerd :ermm:
