Sounds like the Specialist Components ones are the way to go for you then.
I changed my 3.5 for a 5" to get more power also, it certainly did help

Made a good choice there then. Can you tell me what ram pipes you are using and why?

I used the longest ram pipes that SC do. Longer = more power, Webers also need a decent length ram pipe to contain fuel stand off, you would have read about that in Vizards book, since Im not using an air filter which would contain it. This is why I thought you may have been better off with the shorter inlet manifold and longer ram pipes.

I'm getting confused now. The way I read it is that a longer pipe gives more torque and a bit less power (bhp). Shorter ones give more bhp and a bit less torque (page 68). Looking at the graphs there's not to much in it though.

to be honest although Vizard was/is an authority on tuning A series, I go by what Swiftune have tested and proven in the last few years with modern technology and what has worked through my own experience. Thats not to say the same will work for every engine.

My own engine has been on Swiftys dynomometer and the rolling road with alsorts of combinations and countless times and we found longer ram pipes give more power, longer inlet gives more power, shorter ram pipes give less power but more torque as does a shorter inlet. Swifty has found the same with other hillclimb, historic racers and Miglias.

In theory we could do with a ram pipe about 5-6" long but there simply isnt space between the two chokes of the carb to get the correct taper for that length

Which begs the question, who is going to be the first person with ram pipes that extend to the back window?

That's surprising. Did you find there was much difference? Maybe the 5" in combination with the shorter pipes is a good combination then. Rolling road should be next month, when all the mods have been done.

Vizard does mention the 19" ones which comes close :D

There wasnt much difference really but enough to make me stick with long. It did improve my 1/4 mile times by a couple of tenths too even though torque is more important for that. I found that I was wasting the torque with 10" road tyres so the lower torque but higher hp gave a few more mph at the finish line.
