Hi Everyone,

I have luckily found a garage to store my mini in and work on it, whilst its off the road with various engine and clutch problems.

My '97 MPI over heated during the "the worst snow storm in 20 years", having popped the core plugs due to incorrect anti freeze mixture.

So as part of sorting the cooling system and core plugs out, i'm changing the Head Gasket and checking the head as well. What i'd like to know is the following:

1. Apart from the obvious, what do i have to do differently when removing the cylinder head? (I can only find picture guides on Carb cylinder head changes)

2. What do i need to look for on the head, to see if the overheat has caused damage?

3 Anything else i can do whilst the head is off?

Cheers

MPI's aren't my field but I don't se why they should be any different.

I'd be surprised if you damaged the head Iif the head gasket blew you could get a machine shop to check it isn't warped. yo could do it yourself if you have a surface you can guarantee is as flat as a surface plate.

give it a decoke 'n check the valve stems & seats for wear.
