Just take the knob off it whenever you park your car and take it with you. Nobody can start your car without a battery.

Or one of those knobs...............

But the batterys in the boot, which will be locked. The boot of a mini is the most secure area and it'll take a fair bit of force with a crow bar to get it open. Even then it'll destroy the lock and bootlid.

To be honest, most petty theives or joy riders would give up if they can't get the car started easily enough. If somebody really wanted your car, they could just tow it onto a trailer easily enough and theres not alot you could do to prevent it.

I've got one fitted on mine and i think its great. When you park to leave your car for any long period of time, it only take 10 seconds to open the boot and unscrew the knob. Just make sure you don't lose it!

Good thing about it is it comes with a 15A fused bypass wire. So when you unscrew the knob you won't loose your radio codes or trigger the alarm.

For £15 and 10 minutes to fit, it can't be beaten for security IMO.

^^^ please dont expect that to be any use if its this style of thing...

It taks less than 5 seconds to get one off, using just your bare hands.

as for the original post - the discklock style wheel covers are very well regarded here and one of the best physical deterrants you can get. They come in a couple of sizes so make sure you get the right one for your wheel.

its just a case of unscrewing the gear knob, and sliding it off, i had one once and when someone pointed that out i threw it in the bin. got a disclok that covers the whole wheel now for when i park in particularly bad areas.

usually the gear knob is glued on, mine has high strength epoxy on it

I have grub screws to secure gear knob. And I'm always particular to where I park my mini.

it doest make any diff what you have, if someone wants your car, or something in your car, they will take it. the key is to use as many detterants as possible, a mixture of anti drive devices (wheel lock/gear lock/dicarnect), an alarm&imob, safe parking, and even a secret kill switch.

i would rather see my cheap cd player nicked than my car!

I've got a switch that's among my other switches and it's conected to the coil, so it kills the engine and if you leave it off the engine wont start, i've also get a steering lock which would just deter people from braking in and trying. Joy riders might target olders cars because they're easier to steel. I'll also have a face off head unit, if I have a amp hide it and make sure eventhing inculding coats and bags are in the boot, it's anoying if somone puts a screw driver in the lock or breaks a window just to see what's in your coat pockets or somthing.

I've got a Toad immobiliser on mine with the touch-fob-thing semi hidden on the drivers a pillar and a mul-t-lock that locks the gear stick in neutral, means the car can be towed but pretty dificult to drive, bit of a bugger if my handbrake needs adjusted and i'm parked on a slope though.

Imo theres no one best thing you can do to aid security; mines kept locked and alarmed in a locked and alarmed garage, with a steering lock, 2 immobilisers, a disconnected coil, speakers covered with a jumper and i take the radio out when i leave the car. I also plan to get a wheelclamp as an added visual deterrent, anti smash window film, and never leave anything at all on display, no cables, nothing. Except the jumper...

Has anyone heard of or used a device called a SWAT. I have been checking products out and this is a unit that fits on the steering wheel with an audible motion sensor alarm . I have a Mk I cooper so I can't really fit an alarm but liked the idea of an audible deterrent if the car is knocked. The thing is it seems to be only available in places like the USA and the postage costs more than the unit. Has anybody heard of it and has an opinion on whether its worth the postage.
