My dads got a 2002 one with the 1.8 turbo petrol engine ;)

Apart from a defect with the coil pack it's been pretty much problem free from new, just now in the last few months started to develop a few squeaks and groans

I think I can see a TDI badge on the back... If she is anything like my Passat, when it comes to do a Cambelt change, you might as well replace the water pump (the whole front end would have come off by now anyway).

I would say do a General Service with Cambelt etc and Waterpump if she hasn't already been done (better to be safe than sorry).

Whats the mileage? I've just rolled over 101500Miles on mine (2001 Passat B5.5/3BG -Face Lift model- 1.9TDI 130BHP) and she is still going strong. My mates has just clocked over 500k on his (Turbo is starting to smoke ever so slightly) and have seen many hit 300k before anything needs to be done (apart from Services etc)

your right, its a TDi 110, got 79k on the clock. According to Skoda the belt should be changed at 100k so am going to look at getting it done soon. Didn't think there was any probs with the water pumps but I suppose it makes sense to do it while your in there. The timing belts hard to change???

Nope, there is no problem with the water pumps that I know of, but while everything is off it seemed wise to change it as it would have cost me all the labour and hassle of doing it again.

Definatly needs a Towbar! Mine can pull most things happily but has quite a short first gear (more torque I guess).

Did it have FSH? Doesn't sound or look like its been cab'ed so I think you have a good 'un!

its missing one service from the book i think, had one at 33k and one at 60k and the place i've bought it from are doing a service in the morning before I pick it up. engine sounds as it should, starts quickly and there is no smoke when revved. few little things wrong with it but nothing expensive (things like a switch blank missing from the dash, little stone chips etc) but all in all a realy nice car.

I've always had VW's and cannot fault their diesel engines... They go on for ever!

A few niggly bits are easy to put right, have a look at GTI International up in Bruntingthorpe Testing Ground, Leics which should be a good one - I'll be up there ;)

Well the little 'un is due soon so thought it best to treat it to a nice new ride, it was the colour that swung it for the wife. She thought the car was "alright" and was flicking through car ads whena shout came over my soulder (right down my ear) "oh thats a nice colour!!!!"

Definately change the water pump i have a Golf and sister has a Sharan the drive on the water pump is plastic and glued on after a few years the glue gives up and the belt still turns the water pump pulley but not the internals leading to overheating problems but no water loss
