Alright so maybe that's abit of an exaggeration.. but allow me to continue >_<

I'm only 23 and when I went to school yeah we used slang terms and swore a bit, but at least we were taught properly and I'd say I have a pretty good understanding and application of the English language as a result of that and also my parents always reading to me as a kid.

Now I've come to notice lately that I'm in a minority :D

For some bizarre reason my 10 year old sister has started using z's instead of s's - something I only noticed the other night while on MSN to her and which I will make sure gets sorted :P

I got a takeaway leaflet through today - "Rajas Kebabz" - "Try our nan kebabz the biggest and best". Ignoring the z's I won't even bother correcting the sentence.

It's not just small people, people my age and probably older on facebook etc just make STUPID errors - "If your happy and you no it clap your hands!!" - the girl who had that as her status is doing some sort of "higher education" course!

I don't expect everyone to use 100% correct English in their text nor do I expect them to speak in the Queen's English; I don't know whether it's a sign I'm getting old but I'm finding it hard to communicate with people sometimes these days >_<

It really irritates me when people use lazy forms of the language, lazy enough that I actually have to read it several times to see what they're trying to say...

What's to blame, pure stupidity or complete ignorance?!

Finally, somebody else who has noticed.

I can't explain why people these days can't spell or structure a sentence properly, but it drives me mad aswell.

Needless to say my daughter will have the best education I can find/afford!

Both!

Society has been brainwashed into accepting everyone of every faith, colour, orientation, ability, size, weight etc etc it's all gone a bit too far and it will be a nightmare to bail out the sinking ship!!! you don't need to try anymore, you don't need to work, don't need to be nice to people, follow rules or laws. This is generation Y... as in "Y da F.. did we let diz appn"

What gets me is when "lol" is used to end every sentence like a full stop!

It's extremely annoying. When someone writes like that I can't help but think that it's a 5 year old with no schooling. It really takes no effort to type properly, and use the correct grammar! Blame modern society - it's "acceptable" these days.

Let's not forget that part of the forum rules state that we should not use "text speak" or other common abbreviations and that we should use full English words.

Post in English

When posting on the forums, please use English! Don't speak entirely in all-capitals, or so called 'TEXT' speak.

Also if you're able to speak good English, use your abilities - computers provide you with a full keyboard, and there is no need to shorten words to letters (for example you = u, and your = ur) therefore please use full words.

The forum software (with 95% of browsers) includes a spell-check facility - please use it! Any words spelt incorrectly will be underlined in red. Excuses such as "I suffer from dyslexia" no longer apply due to the introduction of this software.

So this is a place where we can expect proper use of the English language and expect that something be done about people who don't use it...

I agree. Well it's not so much just "accepting" people because I think we can all do that, but we've gotta embrace this wonderful mish-mash of different nationalities, faiths etc..

It annoys me when people speak foreign languages out in public to each other because I think it's damn ignorant - but then I think to myself if we can't even communicate English properly why should they bother trying >_<

I'm with you Chris >_<

Some of things I see, on here and other places are terrible. Some people don't seem to even want to make the effort with punctuation and proper sentences.

Instead its poorly written and hard to understand drivel.

Its not hard to do, and used to be taught as the basics.

With the increase of mobile phone and internet usage young children are becoming more and more aware of 'txt slang' so to speak and as you said yourself your sister of 10 who's on msn has started to use 'z' instead of 's'.

Not all of this can be blamed on mobile phones and internet and how they have their own language to make it easier to text, personally I think it is due to to some TV programs and music artists who don't always speak properly.
It's basically imitation and ease of use as to why in my opinion more people use such language.
