That's another thing I meant to say!

POP MUSIC!

Lou said to me the other week and I agree... why is it that most songs out in the charts at the minute don't ACTUALLY have a proper song and verse? It's all "yeah yeah" and "humm humm humm" repetitive, monotonous drivel!! And usually said songs contain references to sex, or glorify binge drinking and basically promiscuity.

I was listening to Radio 1 today and it clicked with me again!

Prime example - "Lady Gaga" :P >_< >_< :D ...

I've had a little bit too much
All of the people start to rush
(Start to rush by)

A dizzy twister dance
Can't find my drink or man
Where are my keys, I lost my phone

What's going on on the floor?
I love this record baby
But I can’t see straight anymore
Keep it cool, what's the name of this club?
I can't remember but it's alright, alright

Just dance, gonna be okay
Da-doo-doo-doo
Just dance, spin that record babe
Da-doo-doo-doo
Just dance, gonna be okay
Duh-duh-duh-duh
Dance, dance, dance
Ju-ju-ju-just dance

I agree. My 10 year old sister does the same but it quite amusing because its all so unnecessary. She was talking to her friend on msn and she says stuff like "lolz" and "dat", 1 more letter cant be that much harder to type? >_<

With the increase of mobile phone and internet usage young children are becoming more and more aware of 'txt slang' so to speak and as you said yourself your sister of 10 who's on msn has started to use 'z' instead of 's'.

Not all of this can be blamed on mobile phones and internet and how they have their own language to make it easier to text, personally I think it is due to to some TV programs and music artists who don't always speak properly.
It's basically imitation and ease of use as to why in my opinion more people use such language.

A lot of it is because the words are shorter and "quicker", but replacing a 's' with a 'z' isn't quicker, and it makes the person look like a 'tard.

Ditto Craig >_<

I'm going to have to give my sister English lessons and force her to listen to some Iron Maiden.

yeh I agree with that it does seem very pointless...also im sure i read somewhere that certain abbreviations are used due to the fact they can be typed with one hand such as 'lol'. This can be typed with one hand so it just seems easier to some people as their lazy and can't be bothered to use two hands >_< .

Needless to say my daughter will have the best education I can find/afford!

Trust me, my daughter is privately educated and she still does it. If I get a text message from her thats not properly spelt out then I remind her she is texting her mother!

Chris... Miss Guy jr. is a cunning young lady, I must say; I pleaded with her not to use the Z's... and then she bribed me by saying 'If you play a game with me then I will stop using the Z's" .... if she is this clever, then there is hope yet that we can re-teach her! hehe >_<

So, just a quick look at my facebook...

These are (worrying) status's / typage from MOTHERS... What on earth are they going to teach their children! :D

"....Is all set 4 a cosy nite in lol"

"was on hunny hows da bday party comin along did u look on ebay catch up soon lyl" ...what on EARTH is 'was on' surely it should be 'WHAT'S ON'.. and this girl actually speaks like this (and has done so for years) so i can only imagine her feeling immense joy when her child picks such terrible slang up >_<

"oh and dat is sad be comin a fan of mount charles social club lol"

"Is EnJoyIn ThE wEeKeNd WiD HeR MaN aNd OuR BeAuTiFuL DaUgHtEr KaItLyN (love you both very much)"

"is bored and cant w8 til jay gets home, and thinks everything will b good gen real soon!!"

and these girls... all they seem to want to do is to go out and get *drunk* all the time! their statuses are always going on about how they're going out or want to go out...

maybe i'm a wee bit old fashioned... but i'm pretty sure mother's shouldn't be going out on the *yellow human water* QUITE as often as they do :P

*sigh* the problem these days.... is you bring your child up well, but they go to school and get in with the wrong crowd and all your good parenting goes out the window!

*ranty rant*

A lot of it is to do with how the kids are taught from a young age.

If you have parents who werent particularly bright (please dont take offence anyone) and you are reliant on them to teach you how to read and write, because most schools now inisit that children have a grasp of reading and basic writing skills, then really you aren't setting off on the right foot for a life in education.

Mind you I have to say that most of my daughter's friends think its cool to be a bit "gangsta" as they call it!

It drives me absolutely nuts!

Sometimes I despair when I read what she is about to write out for her english homework!

I also blame a lot of it on the education system. They should scrap SATS so that school is fun. When Phoebe was at Junior school some of her friends burnt out from all the worry of having to pass sats to be able to pass their 11+ to get into a decent school.

School just isnt fun anymore!

I could go off on a complete tangent but I'm not going to >_<

believe me without SATS school still isn't fun.
my first school had SATS then for some reason (don't remember why) just scrapped then.

it does take a lot of pressure of youngsters as it means they don't have to worry about passing them in order to continue their education.

the one problem with taking out SATS is that schools will introduce some other form of examinations as they have to monitor the progress of all pupils so there is still going to be that pressure of exams even if they aren't as important as SATS
