currently my costings are looking like this:
Pistons and rings - £115-120 shipped from australia
Gearbox - £310 GW
12g295 head - £100 max
Cam kit - unsure of cost estimating around £130
Vernier Duplex - £85
Crank work - dont fancy spending any more than £200
Flywheel - £120
back plate - £80
Rally clutch - £50
block machining - unsure of cost.
and all of the other little bits that ned buying.
so that comes to £1190 without the block machining. so not far off
and if i can find an extra £270 i will be getting a nice set of drop gears for it too
My box is a guessworks refurb that cost me £75
The block was:-
Bored
Crank ground
new cam brgs
new big end and main brgs
That little lot cost me £275
Cam kit £225
I had a 295 head but had it overhauled and converted to unleaded
£200
Flywheel £120
Backing plate £75
New clutch £40
Pistons (2nd hand but new) £60
Gaskets/locktabs etc £60
Aldon Dizzy - £119
Aldon ignitor - £60
Manifold - £30
I had the exhaust already
Costs soon stack up and its easy to spend more than you think!!
I'd agree with the cam, SW5 is good and since my power figures are similar to coopermans it obviously works!!
I'd maybe go with the 276, also the cost of the Aldon stuff you could go megajolt.
My next stage is a supercharger!!!

Still does anyone know what the bore would be on 998 +120thou ?
how did you work it out..i have a feeling im being excessivly dense...
How is that Aldon Dizzy? which colour did you go for,
i was thinking of having a custom advance curve made for mine, but i dont know how much that would cost..
Cant you turn up the radio..to cover the Straight Cut gears noise...
Minisport Australia...thats gonna kill me on postage isnt it!

Yes mate a Square engine is a good thing.. it makes the engine very balanced and revvy...

the postage is cheap. the pistons and rings are $180 Oz dollars. the postage is $68 OZ dollars.
that only comes to around £120 in total.
it works out much cheaper buying them from abroad

Standard pistons are 64.6mm, so +120 are 67.65mm
Then a +120 bored car will have a cc of 1096cc, if my maths is right.

the stroke a 998 is 76.2 so its getting closer to being sqaure, that 850 Crank would be good though as its about 68.2 but then i would loose the torque from the extra CC's. 1096 is pretty nice as its essentially a short stroke 1100.

If so....!!!
I went for the yellow one without vac advance, was advised that it would be better.
The guy at Southam said it was advancing nicely through the rev range and was performing well.

The yellow looks good, but im still kinda thinking of a custom curve and a Britpart Cheapy leccy ignition conversion.

I did have a britparts in it, worked for 4 minutes and then burned out!!
I had it in my old Elf dizzy before with no problems. I think they don't like electronic ignition coils, if you get one play safe and use a standard coil.
Otherwise I'd be running one now, I had the RRoad booked for the following day and was stuck, hence the expensive Aldon one.
DOH!!!

but he has basically convinced me to go the 1380 route as it will serve my purpose much better, and last me longer.
although i may just build up a standard 998 with +120 in the meantime and a 12g295 head while i get the bits together for the 1380.
