1st pic (connector being held near drivers side headlight) looks like temp sender. Does your temp gauge work? Sender is on the block under the coil on mine.

Ive just re-organised the wires at the front of mine. Cut out all the bullet connectors, soldered them properly and hid the wires inside some tubing I got off ebay. Hey presto all work perfect.

Quite why they put a load of exposed bullet connectors behind the grill is beyond me.

The temp gauge is working...

Sounds like a good idea about soldering the bullet connectors, not sure if im brave enough to do it myself though, whenever i do anything on the mini something else breaks lol

Mate, I had never soldered in my life before. Go on to youtube. There are loads of videos showing you how to solder.

My advice:

Make sure you have a good soldering iron (Best value one I found was a 40 watt one at B&Q for £14.99)
Make sure you use plenty of Rosin flux. (I bought a Rosin Flux Pen from Maplins - very handy)
Make sure you clean the excess flux once joint has cooled down.
Make sure you insulate the joint properly after.

I spent many a time messing about with the poxy bullet connectors to no avail. Bin em I say.

Ok, ive managed to identify the light problem... it was the blue wires bullet connector, i had taken them all out cleaned them and no better, i then replaced all the fuses still no better, went out today and did the bullet connectors again taking each one out with the headlights on and hey presto if you dont plug the blue one back in fully it works!

The full beams still dont work properly though... if i turn then on perminently on light goes off completly and the other works fine, if i flash the lights they both work... any ideas?

The horn has also stopped working whilst ive been fiddling, cant see it (ive got a haynes manual but there isn't anything that looks like the pic they show that i can see) where abouts in the engine is it?

ive still got that red wire loose (which i think was pic 1?)

Ive reattached the thermastat which works

still have 2 sheared wires that i think may have been for spots due to there positioning???

Anyone got any more idea's thanks for your help so far!

Headlights are working perfectly... dont know how exactly lol - didn't work last night but work today ;D

Horns fixed too!!! just a loose connection on the black wiring box

I think the cluster at the drivers side of the engine bay may be for an alarm?

The little red and pink wire doesn't appear to have anything to plug into but everythings working at the moment so not to worried...
