So I thought I’d share my embarrassment with you. I was in a multi-storey and reversed straight into a pillar because I needed to change the rain station. I therefore blame Busted.

I’ve phoned my insurance and they’re dealing with it, I’m just curious what panels everyone thinks will be replaced / pulled, and if anyone could put a rough price on the repair (again just to indulge my curiosity).

I’m hoping they will replace the boot floor, anyone think they’ll just pull it out? It look pretty wrinkled to me.

There look to be some sharp edges/folds in the boot floor, so if it is pulled out and flattened, it could leak if not repaired properly, depending how sharp the folds are and if there are holes or tears once straightened.

Ooooo that looks bad, if you do get the insurance to do it, make sure they do a propper job.

Thanks for the fast replys. I'm hoping they replace the boot floor. Surley with it having been bent that much, then bent again it would be weakened significantly and would be like paper if someone rear ended me.
I'm with Admiral and the repair is being done through Arnold Clark. Hopefully they make a good job, my rear screen heater and right speaker don't work now either.
It's not clear in the photos but when my boot lid it up the left hand side has about a 4 inch gap when the right side is cloesd! Needed to tie it shut with the handles from my gf's harrods bag. She was not amused.
But it could be worse, my rear valance was a bit rusty anyway and my bootlid had a dent before so at least that taken care of. My electric windows will have to wait now though.

Personally i wold take a hammer and some dollies to it before i paid any money, just to see if i couldnt get it back how it should be.

you will probably need a new boot floor, or atleast a boot floor repair section, a bumper and posibly a boot hinge repair and even rear light section repair (i dont know the official names, but i know they exist because i have bought them)

Valence actualy looks ok in those pictures, appart from the obvious fact that the lip will be bent.

your fog light is *melonsed* though, you will definatly need a new one


If they do try to right it off, dont let them have it!

watch out that you dont get charged a huge bill for pannels that havent been replaced, i have heard stories of companies pulling panels out, filling them, repainting, and then chargeing for a hole panel replacement!


and yer, defo busteds faults, send them the bill!!! (i regularly hurt my self diving at the radio or remote to turn them off)

They'll probably cut out the boot floor (lose the strength) and then pull the rest out,bosh a patch in, quick bosh of filler, lick of paint and be done with it.

mmmmmm......I had similar damage to the rear end of my 1st mini (got rear-ended funnily enough) and the insurers just wrote it off as 'un-economical' to repair!
that was about 5 years ago, the insurer was Tesco, the mini a H-reg studio 2 which they valued at about £800-00 i believe!

Glad I'm not the only one! I've done it twice now, once in mini but very little damage and then in the Focus leaving a nice dent and scratch in the side door. The little post hava a habit of jumping in the way! Indeed it is embarrassing lol

Personally myself I would remove the Rear light,Bumper, Bootlid etc. Take the battery out & remove the rear valance get a porta power in the back & gently jack the body back out whilst panel beating the floor out back flat, dolly the rear panel back to shape,then fit a new valance, Fill,Prime & paint. It's a job that would take a bit of time to do correctly. I would give a rough quote of around £450 depending on how floor straightened.

Personally i would fix it myself, but if i couldnt do that i would take it to someone who could and pay for them to fix it, becasue if going through insurance they will almost defonately write that off...

From looking at the picks, I’d put money on it being written off, as from the first pick it looks like the rear stub frame mount has moved, possibly bending the subfame which is structural.

And the list of repairs.... boot floor, possibly stubframe, rear panel, rear valance and closing panels, rear bumper, fog lamp, back end re-spray plus labour.

I wasn't going fast honestly! It was a really thin pillar, about 3 and a half inches so it just sliced in. I'm guessing thats why I didn't see it, I thought I had hit something below the rear screen out of slight till I got out.

It's a 97' cooper sportspack with 40,000 miles on the clock and insured for £5000 so hopefully not written off. I hope not, I've big plans for Miles!
And thanks for the tips about repairs, I'll be all over it with a magnet checking for filler and I'll maybe make a little hidden dent with a center punch to make sure some of my boot floor is replaced.
If I spot anything I'm not happy with I'm an experienced complainer and I'll make a fuss. Just hope he's ok!
