to be honest pal, hate to sound liek the party stopped, but youve got 3 points, i wouldnt risk it, if your a young driver, your insurance is going to suffer with the 3 points anyway, attracting more attention by police wont help you. If they cant give you points for the lights, theyll sure as hell check everything else.

Also, my mate has just got neons on her car, and she rang the police and relevant places up to check they were legal and apprently, as long as the light emiting tube isnt showing theyre legal, they can also only be red or white i think.

But you could always use blue led's mounted in a way so that you can only see the blue glow not the actually LED, looks less obvious and distracting, Or even better use a bright white coloured LED.

As already stated my input on this would be anything pointing forwards should only emit a white light and anything pointing to the rear should be red.

As for lights for the sides i believe these should only be orange, this seems to be the colour that most articulated lorries have along the sides of their trailers.

Dan - on the inpersonating a police car/officer rule how do replica mini vans etc fair? as im considering doing my van to be either a police van or a secricor van..

isnt blue a bit chavvy or to coin a phrase of my mates - Too Slow Too stupidous!

Buy a Corsa and put your LEDs on that, not a classic car.

from the Police Act 1996

90 Impersonation, etc
(1) Any person who with intent to deceive impersonates a member of a police force or special constable, or makes any statement or does any act calculated falsely to suggest that he is such a member or constable, shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale, or to both.
(2) Any person who, not being a constable, wears any article of police uniform in circumstances where it gives him an appearance so nearly resembling that of a member of a police force as to be calculated to deceive shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale.
(3) Any person who, not being a member of a police force or special constable, has in his possession any article of police uniform shall, unless he proves that he obtained possession of that article lawfully and has possession of it for a lawful purpose, be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 1 on the standard scale.
(4) In this section—
(a) “article of police uniform” means any article of uniform or any distinctive badge or mark or document of identification usually issued to members of police forces or special constables, or anything having the appearance of such an article, badge, mark or document, and
(b) “special constable” means a special constable appointed for a police area.

.....now then, the way i read that, I would suggest that a classic mini van made to look like a police vehicle of that era doesn't really fit, as a normal, reasonable person is NOT going to see that and think that you actually are a police officer and there is clearly no 'intent to deceive' otherwise you'd have marked up a Focus/Astra or similar and be wearing a uniform!
The only thing I would add is that (as with the previous posts by Dan and myself) a beacon is still not allowed, however, it's fine to have this on your car for shows etc as long as it's either removable or covered up when used on the road! Another consideration is the use of some sort of magnetic 'cover' to go over the word 'Police' on the van when in use on the road - I personally don't think it's necessary, but may be a sensible precaution to avoid getting 'tugged'!

hope that's of some help to you,

Andrew.

If you wanted to do that, get a magnetic strip in the colour of the writing, then just put it on as a cross through the word police, looks tidy, and also shows that you arnt really police. Then again, i also dont think this would be nesercery.

A body colourd plastic or metal cap to clip over the beacon would be a good idea if you cant find a beacon that looks right and is removable.

That statement is a bit worrying for me, lol, i have a pair of standerd issue police boots given to me by my uncle, i think i better get a note from him or something...

You could always position the LEDS behind the grill in a pattern that when turned on spells "CHAV" i doubt the cops would pull you then :P

Sorry I just couldn't help myself :P

was out with the girlfriends cousin last night who happens to be a policewoman. i was talking to her bout tinted windows and loads of thing bout what is legal and not and she said that white LED's behind the grill are fine and blue is fine to. but NO flashing, cause then you are breaking the law.

by the way i dont know if this law is regional or only to the gloustershire area, so your county may have different rules.
