Yup, fabricated and welded up a steel box for the numberplate. Thought it would finish it off.

But theres a list of things I want to do before paint ; dropping the front subframe, sorting all that, building and fitting dashboard. Still a small bit of welding on the bulkhead to do. Sunroof and bits and bobs.
Not far off though!

I'll be so happy to see it in paint (as long as it looks good and straight. So scared of it all coming out rippely and wobbly)

i've just been reading the hole topic, looking very good!
i laughed my ass off when you said about the 10 hours for the wheel arch, i've done the same kind of thing but with sports packs and oh my god what a pain in the arse they were!! never again!
i'm pretty much at the same stage as you now hopefuly going into the spray shop very soon.i would say check out my project but i haven't updated it for months!
good luck and keep it up.

Fibreglass bootlid? Its a steel one buddy. Maybe it looks fibreglass because the polester on it is still wet?

Its a mk3 bootlid.
We bought a mk1 bootlid that was beyond repair around the bottom and sides for £5.
Carefully cut out the mk3 numberplate recess.
Carefully cut out the mk1 numberplate recess 10mm bigger.
Then slipped the mk1 recess into the mk3 bootlid.
Steadily welded it in.
Abra-cadabra, fully steel "MK1" bootlid. I know their are a few differences between mine and a real mk1 bootlid, But its fully steel, not fibreglass and well.. just another thing I've achieved to do on the car!

And jack have you thought about smoothing the centre ridge on the bonnet? seems the only lasting seem on the car so to speak

And the bonnet ridge is staying. Dont know if this will make sence.. But what I wanted to do with the Mini was to modernise it.. without going over the top... subtle changes, that an everyday person wouldn't realise looking straight at it.
Obviously, to mini enthusiasts, they can spot whats been done a mile off. I didn't really want to follow the boy racer "Smooth it out mate!" theme, just wanted a clean, tidy, simple but effective mini with modernisation and lots of thought with little details that set it apart from other Minis.
Hope I will achieve what I set out to do!
