ive got some troubles with my engine atm, it sounds like a van!,
theres like a rough sounding noise coming from the gearbox, its more noticeable when i pull off in 1st, sounds rough exactly how a battered ford transit sounds as they pull off, the oil level is just under the MAX line, im gonna give it an oil change tomorrow, but is this a more serious problem
thanks

I fear a oil change isn't going to solve your problem.

hello all

So to help us help you,it was ok before, obviously as i have seen your other threads,so im guessing its just started, although im struggling to work out how you deffo know its the box,but you say the engine runs like a diesel,it may well sound worst in 1st as its under the most load,so im going to forget the gearbox and concentrate on the engine.
I would suggest you have an exhaust leak again and this is blowing and sounding like a diesel.
It could be that you have a faulty lead, plug, rotor arm, loose dizzy, craccked dizzy cap.so its running on 3 cylinders and again sounds crap.
When you adjusted the tappets you may have overtightened or under tightened something and i would recommend you check nothing is broken on the rocker arm.
We really need to know if the car runs ok,gears are free, starts up ok and revs cleanly and does the noise occur from top or bottom on tickover.
cheers mate.

Would deffo suggest you check that your manifold is tight or that the gasket hasn't blown, also just to add,the fans not catching on a cable or tie rap or something daft and making the noise is it ?

oh forgot to say, gear change is fine, no problems engaging or disengaging gears
it also feels like its lacking acceleration power

If ur carb is overfuelling and u have an air leak ur car wont be cutting out, but ur engine will sound 'strange' as a van. Check spark plugs gaps.

hey, well oil change is done, noise is still there, you can hear it rumble when you rev it lightly so as vally46 says is cant be the box, it happens when the engine is on more load, the manifold is all nice and tight, its only happened in the last day, was running nice before, nothing is blowing, could it just need a tune up?

Best thing to do get it booked in for a proper set up,ask the mechanic what his oppinion is,we could give u lots of things to look at or change, best get it checked sooner rather than later.
For people just reading this thread,im recomending the set up because its a recent engine swap and has an aftermarket filter and exhaust

you sure its not as fast or are you getting use to the extra bhp

This deffo sounds like an exhaust leak now i have had a think about it,would explain loss of power, jack it up,check around Y piece for black soot, you may have had a few hard gear changes and pull the pipe out of the Y piece a little.hey, well oil change is done, noise is still there, you can hear it rumble when you rev it lightly so as vally46 says is cant be the box, it happens when the engine is on more load, the manifold is all nice and tight, its only happened in the last day, was running nice before, nothing is blowing, could it just need a tune up?

Failing that try and listen near the top of the engine near the carb listen if noisy there,if so then gasket blown or similar problem, they do sound bad when they leak and may sound rumbly.
I dont think it's major internal, like a crank bearing, because i knwow the engines history and its low miles.

I would double check valve clearances as well, just in case one of the lock nuts has worked loose, because that definately makes it sound like a van!
