so, really 7" is out of question...
basically back to square one,
choice between 7.5 or 8.4..
both equally expensive...if you consider the wheel and tire prices...for the new 12" wheels (250)

can any one confirm what cooperman said?

so, all i need to buy are:

a couple of 7" brake discs

brake pads

calipers
?

and i can just swap?

All accounts I've seen of the 7" disc brakes describe them as worse than (properly maintained and adjusted) standard front drums. As I understand it they're also not that easy to find.

I spent the £500 on the 7.5" setup. Somerford Minis provided me with all the bits for about that price a few years back and once installed they've been absolutely brilliant. Huge improvement in braking, and you can be pretty sure that any 10" wheel you get will fit over them.

7.9" discs will obviously provide superior braking than the 7.5" discs, but unless you're racing, (or drive like you're racing ) then I can't imagine a reason to spend the extra to get the 7.9" setup.

Also: don't forget to buy longer wheel studs and some spacers, (or superfins with the built in spacers) for the rear wheels, as all the disc brake options widen the track of the car at the front slightly.
