Hello all,
I just bought an '85 Mini Mayfair Sport and my question is does any one know what the "Sport" refers to? I can't find anything on the internet about Mayfair Sports. The only thing marking it is that it still has it's original decals on it and the rear decals under the window say "Mayfair Sport" where most of them just say Mayfair. Anyone have any ideas what the difference is?

Thanks for the help.

It is a German car (has German Title, and I'm in Germany), and it's black. I was thinking the same thing that someone just stuck a Sports sticker underneath the Mayfair decal but if they did they did it back in 85 because it has the same wear as the original Mayfair and pinstripe and is the exact same color.

No. It's indeed a german market 'limited edition'. It is absolutely NO spoof! :)

Here is the original brochure for 1983&84: http://www.mini-mayf...yfair_Sport.pdf (5.5MB)

The 'Mayfair Sport' was first introduced in the end of 1983 and was the last modell available with 10" wheels. And it was the first Mini (on the german market) with 165 tyres from new. Trim was mat black, interior was 'baby blue' velours. It had a 'Smiths' 3 gauge cluster with 200km/h dial and rev counter. And it got a 36cm dia leather steering wheel from 'Victor'. Bumpers and grille were black. Fond passengers got an ashtray bolted to the exhaust tunel. It had the 998cc A+ unit with a long 2.95(!) final gear. Wheels were the Exactons known from the 'Special'. And, it allready had the 12" Mini brake system and spacered drums on the rear!

They were available in two colors: silver and black.

It proofed so succesfull that it was not a real 'limited' limited edition, they sold many many Mayfair Sport. Then, as the 'Mini 25' started the era of 12" Minis, they wanted to repeat the succes and continued building the 'Mayfair Sport'. But the 12" Mayfair Sport was less luxurious and not 'that' special as the 10" variants were. I think they only got a rev counter and ashtray for the fond passengers as extra?

Brochure:
http://www.miniacs.d...ver_mayfair.pdf

In fact, I've seen more 'Mayfair Sport' than 'Mayfair' Minis here!! And I'm the owner of a 1984 'Mayfair Sport'. ;)

There were however variations of the 'Sport' sticker. I've been counting 3 so far. 1983, simple red 'Sport' lettering, 1984 red letters on white ground, and 12" i think got black letters (might be wrong).

Cheers,
Jan :)

How did it have 10" exacton rims and the braking system from 12" minis?

Or is this just the rear spaced drums?

I think previous Minis didn't have the front/rear split with the big valve on the crossmember!?
If they had, I'm wrong and it's just the spacered drums :)

SFA is somewhere from mid-northern Germany :)
Count me in for a Mayfair Sport Owners Club (MSOC ;) )

I remember seeing quite a few German owned 'Mayfair Sports' at the Mini 30 Birthday Celebrations @ Silverstone back in 1989.

I owned a Mini Mayfair at the time and it intrigued me why we didn't get the same model here.
