I removed the topic, please dont start another.

can i just say that i asked this in a way that would not disclose ways of stealing minis. i also removed the text minutes after posting it.

i asked for a PM rather than a reply as i would NEVER EVER want any one to have their mini stolen. my mini means everything to me as it does 99.9% of people on this forum. i know that.

anyway i went out and picked up my keys. lol

If you read your Haynes Manual and figure out the wiring diagram, understand what's going on when you start the car, then add in the fact that the main battery feed goes straight to the starter motor, you should be able to see why hot wiring a mini is the work of a few moments, especially with a little preparation.

If you worried about ways of protecting your mini then for me 1st thing I'd do is fit a battery isolator in the boot.

This will stop any power going to the engine bay, where once its there it doesn't take long to use that power to start the car.

Then you need some way of stop it being steered, crooklok or similar.

After removing my faulty imobiliser i wouldn't bother fitting another one after how easy it was to bypass.

Best way IMO is to fit a pedal lock and a battery isolator. If you think about ways to get a mini to start there is one easy way that most people miss if you have a colomn drop bracket.

If you can weld you can make up your own pedal lock. 2 bits of box section approx 8 inches long and a bit of 30mm tube about 6 inches long with a 10mm hole one end, simple's.

I wasn't having a go at anybody, simply removed the thread.

Number one is fit a battery isolator int he boot, as mentioned, you can get them with fused bypasses so they keep any alarm/immobiliser/stereo settings going, but the extra current draw used in trying to start/drive the car causes the fuse to blow, and cuts all power!

im sure years ago my old man put a tap in the brake line, press peddle an turn the tap so the brakes locked on, access from under the carpet.
suppose a tap in the fuel line would work aswell.

Im sure there was a link a while back on a switch that was on when reverse was selected, so you could only start the car in reverse. Sorry im not any good with wiring I cant explain any better than that!
