Very interesting thread this.

I have just purchased of a chap at work a never used 50L 2hp 7cfm Compressor for £80 so this is what i'll be using. I can't afford a £200 gun so what are my options.

Would the Clarke AP16GF Gravity Fed Spray Gun be up to the job even though it is a 7.5cfm gun or would i be better off with one of the Clarke Pro 12C [1.2mm nozle / 6cfm] or Pro 14c [1.4mm nozle / 7cfm] guns?

try a sealy gold perhaps - alledged to be a replica of the devilbliss GTi pro, but a fraction of the cost at around 35 quid.

looks like i need a better compressor D'oh.

Ive seen one for sale that is 3hp with 9.6 cfm ut only has a 25l tank would i be better looking for one that has a bigger tank?

or

Bit OT but when i raced karts and we went away for the weekend we used to connect and empty gas bottle (as everyone cries Pikie alert - lol) that has a regulator and ball valve in the top and fill it with air from our compressor.

could i rig something like this up to increase the volume of air thats stored to double or even quadroaple (sp?) the storage capacity?

I used the clarke hvlp gravity gun as shown previously ,I think it's a
super gun for the money.... I found that using a bit more thinner was
a worthwhile.

I have been doing a bit of research and the Sealy gold air gun looks ideal for my use. Worth having a look as it is a very well liked gun generally.

try to adjust your spraygun to spray slower so that you make sure what you are doing. iam spraying at 5bar at my compressor you get lot less air at the gun, its something like 5bar with 10m pipe = 4bar at the gun. also keep the gun very close to the panel , spraygun must be set up right to not get runs when spraying like that. this is a good technique for the beginner.

Pressure at gun should be about 3 bar, i recently purchased a devilbiss gti copy from ebay and it is every bit as good as the original i use every day.
I only bought it as it was cheaper to buy for the paint cup and service kit but it is just as good ! if i can find the details iwill post them as it was only about £40
