Hi guys,

Just wondered if could get your thoughts. I'm currently in the process of talking to haynes about bringing their fantastic books to the iPhone/iPod touch and am goin to start with the mini.

Do any of you think this would be useful and would you be interested in buying it if the price was around £4.99?

You should be able to swipe through the entire book with pictures, as well as being able to highlight pages/figures and add notes to pages as you go. A search feature is also availible. About 3-4 weeks left on the development front. I'd love to hear your ideas.

Thanks

Thats a pretty cool idea...i would most probably buy a copy :P . The only problem i can see with it (its probably just me) is that i use my manual while working on the car....oily fingers!

This would probably be a good idea for those who dont carry their haynes manual round with them.

In my opnion the manual on an iphone or itouch would be very hard to navigate on such a small screen, but maybe that is just me

Seems a lil pointless... Why not just get a Haynes manual?? As said, oily fingers aren't good for the screen lol

The screen size shouldnt be a problem as you can easily move through webpages full of text, and also the search feature will highlight and pull out relevant bits of text from within the pages.

I thought it might be nice to have if you can't get to your manual and just need to quickly check something.

yes, yes and yes.

as said, oily fingers are a problem but for quick checks it would be very useful and the search function would be good. i assume you would be able to zoom in similarly to photos etc?

Thats the plan. Also working on user generated content, so if you are working on the suspension of the car you can take a picture and share your experiences with other users - which are then rated by other people by level of usefulness.

Silly idea if you ask me, if I want to search for something I use the pdf on my computer which has a much larger screen. When I'm on the car I've got the physical manual with me which is much easier, and if I've got a problem I'll come on here to get some expert advice quickly.

couldn't you just read the pdf on the iPhone? can't imagine it'd be much use for me as I have the 'hardcopy' which i like to make notes in for reference.

...and yeah. dirty fingers + delicate tech is just not on :s

When Haynes sell the real book for what, £10-12? I can't see them letting you sell a full version like that for a fiver.

Plus all the previously stated comments.

The only situation I can see it being any use at all is if you were out on a dark lane in your mini and you had the electrics fail and thus no light to read what could be wrong in your proper haynes, but then again, I'd just use my phone to light up the real book I have in the car.

I wouldnt download it for a £5 when ive already got the real manual and spent £10 on it.

Plus I dont know about others but when i spend money I like to see something there in front of me (not on a screen). I feel the same about downloading music, when i spend money on music I like to have something to show it, a cd, not an icon on itunes which to be honest if something went wrong with your computer could be wiped, same with the iphone.
