The way i look at it is i would pay the extra £250 to know im not going to get a bar coming off if the worst should happen.Im not saying the geronimo cages arent up to standard as they may well be very good ( i havnt seen one in person so cant really comment) but without them being approved theres no real proof they are up to the job.

Edit - You say you plan to attend races where the car has to be up to FIA standard, theres your answer.

Ps. I dont mean to come accross as blunt but safety first and all that.

Well, that's just the thing. I'm not going to race FIA bumper to bumper. The car is going to be used on track days, time trails etc. High speed for sure but no close racing. Geronimo mailed me some pictures of the products the make and it looked good. I've also mailed some people thru Ebay who bought one of their cages to ask what they thought of the finished product. Will let you know what the opinions were. Small chance that I'm going to buy one after all.

can i ask how the cage fits in. because if it all one piece then you would have to cut the roof off and weld it up agen after. and by doing that you loose strength and make the whole thing worfless??? :)

It also says safety devices which is the brand name as well as saying its fia approved.

I assume your looking bolt in multipoint cages? Why not have a weld in?A good fabricator should be up to the job of doing the welding and most are supplied with test sections to be welded up and sent for destructive testing in order for you to get the relevant approval certificates.

A bolt in cage does what it says and bolts together, then bolts to the shell. It is supplied in several different pieces (normally rear section built up and then separates bars for the rest) and is built up in the car.

A weld in cage is normally supplied as separate bars and again these are assembled inside the shell itself but all joints are welded and then the cage is welded to the shell itself.

o rite makes sence. because i was thinking about one soon but purely for show. and the ones i just posted i started to think that even though they are in to pieces, there still pretty big chuks to squeeze through a mini door. lol :)

The rear section is normally the most awkward part of a bolt in as it has to fit inside the rear pockets (unless you have removed them) and can be hard to get it into place.Once thats in,the rest is pretty straight forward.

Bolt in cage = You bolt it in.. small bit of welding needed for the reinforcement plates where the feet of the cage sit. (http://www.minisport...FRBN003SSS.html, http://www.minisport...005SRS-LHD.html, 2 x http://www.minisport..._SAFRB00A1.html, 1 x http://www.minisport...AFRBN096HB.html,

Weld in cage = you get given a load of pre-cut tubes... and this needs to be welded in by an 'approved' welder to maintain its certification. (http://www.minisport...FRBN926SSU.html)

multi-point bolt in cage = better than the 6-point, far stronger (and heavier). all critical joints are bolted together. Basically the same as the multipoint weld in.. more expensive as you dont need a 'proper' welder to fit it!. some welding needed (but is DIY). (http://www.minisport..._SAFMS0906.html)

Note that theres no reason why even the 6 point cage cant be welded to the shell to increase the shell rigidity...

It has no front to rear diagonal to hit my head on.

I didn't mean a diagonal bar. (maybe I didn't explain the best) I was on about the bars that run from the front of the car to the rear roll cage. They are supposed to be tight up at the edge of the roof section. I have heard that these bars were too far inboard and so were too close to the driver and passengers head.

A, the roof bar as you could call it. The cage I'm looking for doesn't have one. You can check it out @ Ebay, it's the multi point CDS cage. I'm waiting for an offer from one of the Dutch supplayers. If that doesn't work out I will buy the Geronimo cage. They've sent me pictures of the joints and weldings. That looked good. And CDS is CDS no? Aside from that I've E-mailed some people who bought products of Geronimo thru E-bay lately. They were very satisfide with the product they bought. So maybe they've upgraded the quality. When I buy and fit one I will tell y'all about my findings...

To be continued
