does anyone know why my mates mpi will not start and run, it died a few weeks back and will fire up lumpy for a few seconds then cut out

I have had a mate come out with a SP ACR4 and no faults recorded

I have changed the following

Fuel filter
Crank sensor
coil pack
Leads
Plugs
Temp sensor

I have checked the obvious, ran a compression test which was fine, the fuel is clean and the pump runs and fires fuel into the injectors, there is a good spark

If I tip fuel into the throttle body it runs ok! I can even rev it, when that fuel is gone it just about fires up again for a few secs then dies

Something seems out of sync

Any ideas most welcome swmbo is getting fed up with it on our drive!

Cant' even burn the damn thing as it's rotten!, why do so many Mpi's seem to be so rusty, I have a '62 unrestored Mk1 in better nick
