right i would like a new laptop, not anytime really soon, but i want to start looking at specs and reading reviews. at the moment i have an advent 4211,a notebook type thing.
http://www.pcworld.c....11c_netbooks_1
* Memory & storage - 1GB Memory & 120GB HDD
* Portable - 10.2"Widescreen Display & 1.12KG
to be honest, i dont like it, i wish i had chosen something different when i got it, but we live and learn. im supposed to be going to coventry uni in september, so i would need the usual, word,excel and powerpoint. but im really into my photography and after losing my photoshop copy, i really want it back. i like the way mac's look and work. but im not sure about running windows in the back and being able to go between the two...maybe someone can clear this up?
also what do we think my advent is worth? its in brill condition, two light scratches on the top of the "lid" and non on the screen, everything works, does as it should do....
any opinions on anything? recommendations?

Check Dell Outlet.
they have refurbed Lappys on there with up to 40% off
dell may not be the best laptops out there but their service is second to none. All my home laptops (4) and the works laptops are Dell. Last company i worked for used dell too.
I had a problem with a home lappy and they were out (to my home) and replaced the Motherboard, CPU and heat sinc within a week of me reporting it. Thats Service

Avoid acers as they like to give up the go. Had two and both broke.

Get a Toshiba. I know there a little bit more expensive but very reliable and easy to use.

trouble with Tosh is the CRAP they provide preinstalled. they would be so much faster if they provided an option to not have all their rubbish removed

Exactly what I have done on my Mac Book Pro, all the latest Macs come with the latest leopard operating system, which has Boot camp so all you do is get a copy of which ever windows operating system you require open up boot camp and use boot camp on your mac to set up a parallel partion so it can install the other operating system on a separate partion
Doesn't decrease the performance either and you get best of both worlds in my case mac as my main system and windows when I want to play games.

Another bonus for Apple is their customer service which is second to none! I foolishly spilt a beer over my MacBook which sent it a little crazy. Popped into my local Apple store in Exeter and had it fixed free of charge in 2 hours!
They cost more...but will outlive any other laptop you may buy by far!

15 inch macbook £1300
15inch Dell £ 350
i know im bias towards windows being an MCSE but still its hard to ignore the fact you can have 3 laptops for the price of 1 mac

The 13.3'' screen is excellent, and works brilliantly on a laptop

John Lewis also give you an extended warranty which is a bonus.
