Hi all i have ordered some new discs pads ball joint etc etc
My questions are When i change the Discs how do i remove the discs i noticed the flange (think thats whats its called has 4 bolts holding it onto the disc they seem to have a strange head on them so how do i get them off?
Also the ball joint kit i have is for both lower and upper and has only one spring in does this go in the top one or the bottom one?
Also track rod ends how do i remove them? i know i have to count each turn until off etc but is it a matter of using your hands to twist?
Please Please Help i want to get on with this as soon as poss

As far as i know they are still hex head bolts. Find some piccies of Torx fasteners as that's all else I can think they could be. You will need to remove the hubnut to get the flanges and discs off - 1,5/16 socket required and a torque wrench to put them back on.

Bottom, where you should find there already is a spring to replace

I'm guessing this isn't related to your brakes? If the old joints are destined for the bin, slacken the lock nut on the track rod then undo the nut on the shaft through the steering arm, use your ball joint splitter. Once the joint is free you should be able to unscrew it easy enough but you can always grip thr track rod with some molegrips and use a spanner on the joint.

superb but the bolts holding the flnge to the discs are not torx they are strange type will see if i can post a pic up

How many sides can you see on them?

These are just standard 9/16" hex bolts... remove them with a 9/16" socket and suitable knuckle bar. Remember to re-torque everything when replacing:
Disc to hub flange 57NM 42LBf
Front suspension
Driveshaft retaining nut:
Disc brake models:
With multiple split pin holes in driveshaft . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 207 150
With single split pin hole in driveshaft . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 255 to 270 188 to 200

if you dont have a torque wrench, beg, borrow or steal one, as you cant do this job without one

Think the father in law has one but hes away for a week so going to raid his shed and find one could someone please list what settings the bolts need to be ie bolts for the flange, studs, crown nut, ball joints, track rod ends etc would be very useful

Would i be right in saying the following?:
Caliper retaining bolts 52NM
Disc to hub flange 57NM
Driveshaft retaining nut 207NM
Swivel hub balljoint nuts 52NM
Track rod end balljoint nut 30NM
This was taken from a haynes manual for models 69-84
Mines a 98 MPI would this still be the same ?

the driveshaft retaining nut needs to be around 250NM, then tightened with a breaker bar untill the hole lines up with a slot in the castle nut
