Well, I for one get annoyed when people come asking here how much insurance will be...but now it's my turn!

Is there a list of mini friendly places knocking round I can phone up that will insure a 20 year old on a fairly modified mini? The only company I've had success with so far is Adrian Flux. Footman James won't quote, neither will Performance Direct, and HIC are the same as Adrian Flux. Other companies I go to keep directing me to a call centre who direct me to another insurance company who direct me back to the call centre, who then recommend a price comparison website which is as helpful as a chocolate teapot when insuring a modified car!

Flux have quoted me £920 for a 1330cc, stage 5 head, kent 276, roll cage, harnesses, 4 pots etc. Is that reasonable?

At 21 with 3 points, 1 acc and a modified car, with a turbo 1310cc engine, all mods declared, 6500 agreed value was £450 with performance direct.

Did they say why they wounldn't quote? I would assume it's an age thing.

Yep, age, and the fact that the engine is quite different to standard.

i used a comparision web site, I can't remember now, could be money supermarket not sure. Anyway that site allowed me to input all modifications of my car just on the site.

I'd rather speak to a real person - also with all the comparison websites I've tried you can't have more than 5 mods/you have to call up anyway due to my age and the car being changed quite a bit from original spec. Also you can't sort stuff out like agreed evaluation on an online form.

Try Liverpool Victoria, or as they are now know LV. They were very good when I was 17 and with mods.

I found First Direct ok...
(Ok, so we have a couple of cars with them and our home insurance too).
£146 fully comp for the 1275 and £122 for the 998.
But I'm 32...

footman james quoted me last year (i was 19) you have to call them up, unless the reason is the amount of mods on it??

i just had this problem but with a 1275.

one company said they coudlnt insure it because of the massive engine.

adrian flux quoted just over £900 so i went with them

The problem with Minis and using price comparson sites is that, even with the mods declared, you might find, in the event of a claim, that you are offered what the insurance company consider to be 'market value' for the car rather than what it's worth as a classic; it's definately worth going with a specialist company who will give you an agreed value for the car, even if it costs a little more to start with. Mine's with Peter Best, £142 fully comp with an agreed value of £3000, although my Mini isn't modified. I'd just be worried that if I went with, for example, esure, direct line or any of the mainstream insurers, I'd get something stupid like £600 if it did get written off.
