and carried on to the end, and passed !
I did mine in the early nineties and had an examiner follow me on another bike and we were linked by intercom, pass on a 125
then whatever you fancy(or can afford to insure) so got a 400 then a couple of years later a 600 then a 1000.

Mate of mine has a CBR600 (I think) as a first bike. Think his insurance in the first year was well over the £1k mark.Insurance might be a little more difficult to obtain if you have no bike experience and go straight for a powerful bike? I would do at least a year on a 400cc if not a restricted 33bhp.

Nothing wrong at all with having a CBR600 as a first bike. Just because its a fast bike, doesn't mean it has to be ridden fast..

ive just bought a cb 250 superdream 1978, lovrly bikes cb's. i did my bike test back in febuary aged 17, so this bike is my first propper road bike (once its on the road, big project) insurance is only £129.48 for tpf&f. going to upgrade to a cb 400 after christmas tho.
i just did the restricted licence proberly what i advise you do as the cb400 is sill less that 33bhp so you can gain some no claims then get somthing really intresting.
