Hey needing to buy a new gearbox, Was wondering would a 96 spi cooper come with a 3.1 diff ?

IIRC the 53HP SPi have a 3.1 and the 63HP SPi have a 3.2 final drive

Yep the Cooper SPi is 3.2:1 FD. Its also coded into the engine number
The 3.1 and the 3.2 both share the same pinion. Sticky lable on the diff housing, if its still legible, says so

I stand corrected 
- have never seen/come across that before myself... not even in the core Cooper SPI engines used in the MMs...
