Well I just got in after fun and games with the AA.

After driving over a pot hole I'd estimate was the size of Paris, my MPI started to die and about 100 yards later we were stopped at the side of the road. After looking around at the injection system and seeing nothing wrong, no overheating, no puddles I quickly came to the conclusion we had run out of fuel (as my fuel gauge does not work and the replacement is behind the drivers seat). Every time we tried to start it it turned over and was trying to start but got less and less untill the engine was just turning. After rocking the car and hearing the fair amount of fuel left in the tank I called the AA. They came out and after checking it was sparking and the injection system pressed a button which I had no idea existed. The "inertia" button I believe?

Pressed it, and it started first time. Couldnt not believe it.

Anyway, moral of this story is if you randomly stop, press the magic button in the top right hand corner of the engine bay - works like a charm.

Night night!!!

this exact thing happened to my friend in a 106 the other day.

he was driving along. hit a pot hole. died. put hazards on. checked everything. called the AA.

so the AA man got there, pressed the button, and by that time his battery was flat. so a boost and he was off.

I think its there so that if you crash, your engine switches off for safety and stuff.

John.

no real point if you have a mechanicle fuel pump, if your fuel hose pop's off your not feeding the engine, if that then cuts out its not curning the cam (which has the lobe for the fuel pump) if the pump isnt pumping in the event of an accident a small (ish in comparison) amount of fuel could be spilled
