Hi there. I'm currently 18, been driving for about 8 months. I don't have a car at the moment. I did have a 1.8 Focus, but it didn't handle as well as I thought it would and I lost it round a corner and through a wall! Fortunately it was sorted outside of insurance, so no claim. But the insurance was a killer, like £180 a month!! I've been thinking about what I want for my next car. Been spending a fair amount of time recently getting my brothers Mini roadworthy. Everything's being kept as standard as he doesn't know much about cars and has no interest in mechanics. But, after doing that, I really want to get one and make it a project car. I would be looking to get a 998cc. Due to not earning a huge amount, it would be an ongoing project. For the first year or so, probably just modding all the suspension and installing my I.C.E and maybe a few basic engine mods. Anyone have any idea what sort of money you're looking for a young drive to be insuring a modified Mini??

As Pauly said, a search might be the best way, but it's a good idea to phone round a few and see what they can offer you. It really depends on your circumstances and the mods I think. Was your previous accident taken care of through insurance?

I've been with Adrian Flux for a couple of years, but there's a few to try. Good luck

Hi there. Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I've had a search through the forums, and most people seem to be saying Adrian Flux. Some of the figures they are saying look good! Some people my age getting fully comp for not far off £1000. I was paying over £2000 for my Focus, 3rd party!! Well, we decided to settle it outside of insurance. It was a farmers wall I destroyed, but I haven't heard from him in almost 2 months. But as of now, I have a clean license. As I say, no major mods will be done for a while due to the money, but looking at peoples posts, looks like it will be a lot more affordable!

Im paying just over £400 with footman james for a 998 stage 1, mods delcared and im 19. Ive heard bad experiences with adrian flux, they love to give you the best deal but when it comes to actually using them to claim, they can be fussy and try and get out of paying in any way possible (from what ive heard off other people).

Forgot to add, thats a classic policy, car has to be 15 years and older and you wont get NCB's but your insurance wont drop dramaticly until your 21 anyway.

Mine is classic insurance too, no NCBs but I paid £365 this renewal. Was actually thinking of FJ, any good?

Have you tried online? if so you cant, you have to phone, you dont need to match the criteria for a classic policy only for a normal one.

Anyone under 25 will be put on a classic policy, you will have to be a member of a mini club to qualify aswell (not hard ).

And I think personally FJ are excellent, excellent customer service (their call centres a few miles from me ) everythings done without a fuss, modifcations are added no problem, if they are performance inhancing then it might increase your premium but not by much, did with me for a stage 1 kit, went from over £380 to over £400.

£400? Is that fully comp or third party?? Is it your own policy?? Read a few people mentioning them as well, I've never heard of them before. Also, you said about having to be part of a Mini Club. I'm new to the whole Mini scene, how do you go about that?

Thats third party fire and theft (its my weekend car) on my own name no other drivers. My daily mini (1275 SPI) im paying £900 for that with CIS on my moms name.

Mini club wise theres a list on the mini mag/mini world magazine sites I think or just do a search on google etc for a local club.

When i was 19 I had a 1.8 Clio RSi insured with the AA for £1200 fully comp with 2 accidents on my list - i must have been very lucky
