No - it's NOT normal - I suspect either the cone is not seated correctly in the subby - or the trumpet not seated in the cone. I'm amazed you can get the damper connected ? Open it up and check again - it's NOT right.

Ive fitted 2 sets of new cones on 2 of my minis and they have both been the same, after a few weeks they will settle, they shouldn't drop straight down (that was the argument with inferior cones a few months back).

Both times ive fitted mine, the cones have been seated properly into the tower and trumpets checked to see if they where seated, on the one, I fitted them with the subby off the car so knew they where right, and it was really high for about a week before settling down and its now sitting just right.

Paul.

They definitly sit high, never measured this one, but it doesn't look far off 5 inches. Replaced just the rears..

Photo taken not long after fitting, car not driven at all

Does yours look like this? new suspension

That photo was taken after fitting adjust-rides to the front of my Mini. Two months and a lot of driving later it was much lower.

Yes - that's the rear! Different ratio there - but 5" at the front is not right.
Obviously with adjustarides - it can be any height you want! And yes - they do settle - a bit.

Take it out for a good drive (over some speed bumps idealy) and it will start to settle them. You will probably lose roughly an inch on the first drive and then it will slowly settle lower.

This was one of mine when I fitted new cones with my hilos and the hilos are wound almost right down, as you can see its still 4inches but after a couple of weeks it dropped to just under 3 inches and have now had to wind the drivers side hilo up a bit to compensate for the weight on the drivers side.

5" from the top of the wheel to the wheel arch its a bit high, have you got spacered knuckles?
I usually have 3 or 4" clearance on the front with fresh cones.
