Mrs Teapot loves her TomTom One, which she has had for several years. When we wanted to add European maps we had to get more memory. It will warn you about speed limits and fixed cameras and you can get updates, if you're inclined to speed. You can choose several different ways of going from A to B, via C & D if you want, but avoiding E. Nasty little blighter, E.

There has been one glitch: the device locked up when I tried to download some new stuff, and despite my best efforts to fix it with advice from TomTom, who I think are in Holland, and then with the help of various forums (fora?) it sulked for two months and then suddenly unlocked and has been fine ever since.

There are two drawbacks: 1) It sometimes gets lost, or drunk, or both, and starts giving wrong directions. This is ok if it's obvious, but at night or in fog it's not obvious, so beware; and 2) if you're visiting someone on a new estate TomTom insists you're in a field and wants you to turn round when possible. Reassure him.

So I have to talk back to my robot? It's a two way relationship? OK. As long as Matilda and robot get along, all will be OK. Much cooing & stroking & machines tend to work alright, in my experience....

Well, three-way if you also talk to Matilda. This is why I can never have a satnav in Huey. He would be jealous.

Mostly I really believe this stuff.

It's true! Speaking as a Scientist, I have found that if you don't name & talk to the machines you use in lab, they will breakdown & your experiments don't work. Fact.

Matilda won't get jealous, will she? ;)

I’d be more worried about Matilda and the Satnav getting too friendly and spawning some horrific mechanical monstrosity either that or both of them sending you to Coventry, unless that’s where you wanted the Satnav to send you of course.

I spent 18 of my formative years in Coventry........I still have to return to visit The Ancestors.

*shudders*

As for Matilda, she can have her wicked way with anyone or anything she likes, if they're up for it!

Never mind proxy flirting for Matilda,

If them Geordies can synthesise man sauce, you should be able to knock up some Mini giz so we can impregnate a brood of surrogate battery Binis before you knock off this afternoon.

Get to it Mz'es
