If not you're going to have to either take a chance or agree a price based on what you find when you strip it and measure (micrometer) the crank journals and cyclinder bores?
what sizes should i be looking for on the crank and widths of cylinder bores??
dont mean to be stupid like but just wana get it right
cheers for your help tho

If so, i wouldnt think twice, whatever are conditions.
About the bore and the stroke, now i dont remeber it right (it isnt a common engine) i have to give a look on some books.

With the same bore size there are the short engine 970 s (61.91 mm stroke) and the long stroke 1275 s (81.28 mm stroke).
About eninge numbres, they are quite caotic and dont follow a definite scheme as later minis do. Most of them have the same 9FSAH prefix as the 997 cooper eninges.

well weve followed mr vizards chart at the start of modify your mini n broke it down to either a 970 s or a 1071,looks like its big enough block to be a 1275,tappet covers on rear,11stud head,no extra metal above flange on block but no engine numbers or stamps so gonna av to pull it apart
iv written them down so ill get the measurements from the engine n compare them
yeah i know its pretty rare just hope he lets me have it as iv heard good things about them
my ex's dad had one in his clubman years ago n he said it revved up too 14k??is this believable???

Its the 970, which is a short engine, that is capable of very high revs.

As far as i know, works car equipped with the 1071 had from 70 bhp at 6k to 85 bhp at about 7.8k revs.
Its the 970, which is a short engine, that is capable of very high revs.
cherers well ill bear that in mind,i dont think ill be doing anything crazy too it if i got it,just get it runing sweet n itd be a nice period engine for my car
thing is iv only just finished building a 1380 from scratch n now this has come along im just gonna have too pull it all out n start again haha

cheers nick suth for your help n info,iv got everything printed out so can give me/us more of an idea what were looking at

Offer him £500 cash (wave it in front of his nose) and you may get it.
I have heard of unground cranks fetching £1000 alone!!!

The block casting number is not the same as the 1275 Cooper S (AEG312). I think 1070's were all AEG161
- it is found at the rear of the block, RHS
