Running without a filter just sucks crap into the engine and accelerates wear.....

And a 'super slim' filter will cause far too much air flow disturbance. The Weber tends to 'spit back' (especially if used with a wide cam) - and has an accelerator pump - it will always smell of petrol! The bulkhead should be completely sealed off from the engine bay. And as above - you need a 'Weber box' - or else you have the useless 'swan neck' inlet manifold which strangles the air flow and completely negates the point of having a Weber in the first place.
