I've sent you a PM tipcat, but as you may see.. at this moment in time, I'd be looking your SPi squarely in the face as a donor..it's probably the cheapest alternative

Well, I have the equipment... can anyone recommend a good guide on how to drop an engine, gearbox and subframe? (I'm an electrician... if it ain't got wires, I get confused! :erm: )

this man does have a point here, though he does make damn good pancakes first thing in the morning, don't he

sorry tipcat couldn't resist it :) :wales:

 Glad you liked them, Cowboy!
Now, back to business... I don't think using the spi (for sale, nudge nudge... good project for someone, wink wink!) as a donor is a goer... by the time I transfer all the injection wiring, the fuel tank, the ECU, etc etc etc over, I might as well just take the panels off the classic, original, generally sound older car and put them on the project car (for sale, etc etc! :cheese: )...With my limited knowledge of the mechanics of the thing, I get a sense it can get real ugly!

I've had a chat with my friendly local garage owner, who has one workable Mini and two waiting-for-the-knacker-man ones, and I might move my car into his garage for the winter, so he can do the conversion at his leisure. The cowardly way to do it, maybe, but more likely to get done, and be ready for next year's Drag Wars and Nurburgring!

Next question... anyone got a spare 998 engine & gearbox for sale, working or workable, and for a reasonable price?

Back to the original question.... how good do you want then engine/gearbox

Well, my local mechanic seems to be saisfied with an engine and gearbox connected... no problems with seals, he says... and as long as they're good runners, that'll work. I wouldn't worry about all the peripherals, as I can either swap them over from the auto, or find them when I need them! :erm: As I'm not now planning on doing the work myself, I don't need it to be in an install-engine-and-run condition!

Is that clear, or have I confused myself? :saywhat:
