Hi Guys

Been thinking about this for a while, but just can't work out the best way of designing it... My new dash must have the following...

Walnut
Decent Glovebox like the Mpi's
3 extra dials
3 standard dials
Double DIN slot (for a decent stereo with TV, DVD, Nav etc etc etc...)

Ideas on a postcard please...

Ta muchly

Double DIN screen won't fit behind the dash due to the bulkhead - just so you know!

They do slide out screens in single DIN size don't they?

hopefully there's a slimline double DIN that'll fit... the fold out single DINs are OK, but the screen will cover the extra dials when folded out so not ideal

Yeah, the slide out ones are the same size as a normal radio (we had one - got nicked, careful with it!)

Only other things I can think of are one of those single DIN ones with the 4" screens in them, which are ok, or a double DIN one in a centre console?

Or a flip out single DIN one with the dials below it instead of above it? Might not be room though, with the bulkhead.

or go a it mental on the dash design, something realy unique and have the dash come out a bit more allowing the fitment of double din equipment.

Could I get one to fit if I maybe went with one of those fibreglass dashboards that people like the stig on here make? it wold mean ditching the walnut, but still a possibility...

You could do. Why dont you send the stig a PM he would be able to help you out a bit more. I know I have seen someone on here that had one of those screen in one of his dashes.

could you not put the screen in the centre console?

to be honest Tom I don't think you could fit all of that onto a normal ddash without it looking cluttered :D

I really don't fancy a centre console because I like the extra space that not having one gives you. I wouldn't really want to put a double din stereo down there because i'd be using it for nav and it wouldn't easily visible...

having said that though, if I got a centre console, I could stick the extra dials down there and then not have them on the dash, making room for the stereo... that would be something different...

Mount the screen where the glovebox would normally go :P

Roofless, how much work was it to get that dash to fit in there? And how much it it cost?

complete dash cost me 80 quid, 2 hours work done, maybe another couple of days work to do.

its narrowed, shortened and reduced in depth. It fits surprisingly well, and is easy to modify - we now need to make up brackets and weld to the shell to give us some fixing points and support braces, then its just a case of re-wrapping the top section in fresh leather or similar, smooth and fill joints on visible plastic sections and paint to suit.

we will probably need to loose the lower stiffening rails as they clash with your legs, but I'll add new ones higher up, and trim the panels and vanity tray that slot into those areas to suit.
