How would i go about removeing the switchplate in a 1998 Cooper S. I wish to mount a cigarette lighter on the left hand side (used by choke in carb models) but dont want to just rip the panel out obviously.

Thanks much

Iain

As far as I know the heater assembly has to be dropped down to give access to the securing nuts for the coke and heater cables

The switches just pop out and unplug with the help from a flat-headed screwdriver

Hope this helps

Im not sure, but im thinking about buying one of the Southern mini style Fiberglass dashboards, This obviously means removing both top and bottom dash rails.

My problem is then refitting the switches, Rathern than having to p1ss around cutting lots of little rectangles to drop each switch into, Im thinking about just cutting one big hole, then mounting the switch plate right on the front of the dash.

would this work?

should work

Because the plate is held in by just the choke and heater cable nuts on the back

just another thaught.

Im going to fit one of those snazzy fiberglass dashboards, Now I dont know wheather the middle of the dash fits snug against the bottom dash rail or wheather it comes away at the middle.

I really dont know how im going to move the whole switch pannel.

speak to either the stig or scurvy on the forum, they make these fibre glass dashes and look to be good quality. they could advise you on fitment
