hey, heres a quick vid of the flame kit we just fixed up, and although it took a fewer hours of moaning to get it sorted it does now work.

How EXACTLY do you make these?

Could you do a quick step by step please?

For show use only obviously!

I'm having one after seeing the brown ratty clubman at IMM!

I'll ask my mate you you can make one.. he was mumbling on about it the other week but i dont listen to him much >_<

EDIT: 555 timer, capacitors resistors and a power transistor.

They're just basically a spark plug wired up into the pipe aren't they? And connected to the coil somehow..

Think you can get the kits off ebay >_<

Basically its a spark plug which ignites uncombusted fuel, and you have to run a bit rich (or use a weber carb) to do that flame.

Something to do with a 555 timer, capacitors resistors and a power transistor

Couldn't you just pull the choke out a bit rather than having it running rich all the time?

I'm making one if that's all it is though, it sounds simple enough!

Spark plug in the exhaust with it's own coil then have a switch which switches over the switched feed from the cars coil to the flamer kits coil. Rev it full throttle and flick the switch then the coil for the engine stops firing the spark plugs so loads of un burnt fuel gets shoved down the exhaust and hits the spark plug now sparking in the tail pipe and ignites the fuel mix, VoilĂ  big flames! If you do it this way you don't have to worry about running the car rich but you can get the same effect by just having a spark plug igniting in the tail pipe and not bothering about switching off the engines coil but then it does have to be running very rich!

this is basically what weve done, except if you do this and have the engine running a little rich, you get an even bigger flame. Now to try it with the choke out aswell!!!! Oh and to answer a previous question it is quite hard to sort everything out, and rig everything up, however there are kits ive seen which make everything easier and most come with everything except a coil and lead which you can buy for a fiver from the local scrap yard. I'm toying with putting a double gap sparkplug in for a quicker light and even getting a toasting attachment!! lol

How would you go about cutting the ignition too the engine, while keeping the feed too the secondary coil.

Could this work?

secondary coil has a 12v feed and shares the ignition coil's earth
Ht lead too spark plug mounted too a boss in the tailpipe
earth too distributor switched

so the action too create flames would be,
turn on secondary coil
rev up engine, hit the switch too kill earth too the distributor
this would kill the ignition sparks, but still give the coil earth pulse

this would enable too create flames without having too run rich.

Orrrrrrr

with the engine running rich, could you just have the secondary coil sharing the earth of the ignition coil?

Ben
