Couldn't you just pull the choke out a bit rather than having it running rich all the time?

Dunno, butterfly is stick a bit open with chocke pulled out and this could affect the quantity of unburnt fuel in the gas.
Mini pete on here did something similar.

basicly whit you do is use a relay to cut the power to the normal ignition coil and then give a feed to another seperate coil that is wierd to a plug in the exhaust, using a 555 timer to pulse the feed (and more relays)
look for the autoloc flamer kit, i used to have one but never fitted it, didnt want to cut my nice shiney rc40 up >_<

can do a similar thing by revving the car then turning the key off and then back on a second later with the throttle still open,

Running a little rich prawn?

Mine does man flames occasionaly.

Although im interested too see how excactly this is wired up. Because I can't see how flicking a switch can turn off 1 coil and turn on another.

just cut back abit of casing off the ignition wire and then wrap the cabling around this, it worked for me. and the switch just diverts the power so that your second coil, (mines in the boot) has power and sparks the plug in the pipe, and away from the primary coil, thus unburnt fuel is pumped through the engine to the exhaust. THEY ARE ILLEGAL ON THE ROAD!!!!! i havent yet tried sparking it will driving, this will have to be done soon.

Another benefit of doing this in a mini is the angle of the exhaust. At the endo of the exhaust pipe there is a kink making the exhaust point upwards at about 35degrees, this makes it harder for unburnt fuel to leave the pipe, and so it sits in the bottom of this bend. With correct placement of the boss and spark plug you can then light this fuel, creating a much more dramatic flame.

Agreed, leave the stupid flamer kits to the chavs in their saxo/corsa/other bodykitted piece of rubbish.

If you're going to do it, let it do it properly.

This all sounds super healthy for your exhaust/engine, especially running it rich, all sounds awsome, i think im going to go and run my engine with the tophose un-attatched and a sprinkler end on it, that way i will have a fountain coming out of my bonnet :D
