Right, now I know there are a million and one threads relating to insurance on TMF but I thought I'd share something promising to all young drivers struggling to insure their Minis.

I recently phoned Footman James as a last resort about insuring my Mini Racing Green with a MG Metro engine, after every other company under the sun had either refused me or quoted me something ridiculous (e.g. Adrian Flux, £4000+). It had got to the stage where me and my dad thought the only solution was to fit a standard 998cc engine and go with Directline (approx. £1400).

But then, expecting the worst, Footman James responded with a quote of £680 TPFT for when I passed my test!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why?
  • Because my Mini is over 15 years old, it's treated as a classic, so is under a cheaper, classic policy.
  • Also, I had to join the British Mini Club to recieve that quote, but for £20 a year, it's a fair deal!

So young drivers, (unfortunately only ones with Minis older than 15 years), join the BMC and give Footman James a call!

Hope this is of some help to some people,
Robbie.

not as such but yet get the number of years you haven't claimed recognized..so its similar.

also classic policies can often limit you to how many miles a year you do

Im with Fj with my blue mini, classic policy. I wanted to put my sidewalk on (daily drive) but it was under 15 years old and found out you are limited to 4500 miles a year and if its your daily it will soon tally up. Luckly my blue car is a weekend car. You can't have unlimited mileage if your a young driver, I still cant and im 19.

Fj will only insure young drivers under classic insurance.

Ive always told young drivers about Fj they are great :).

Paul.

Robbie! You have actually saved my life, i may be on a gap year this year and i feared i wouldn't be able to afford my insurance, especially because i wanted to do some upgrades under the bonnet this year! I will join the Club and call Footman James, this is just fantastic news :)

EDIT: how strange, tried to visit the BMC home page and got redirected to Adrian Flux insurance

usually you have a limited amount of miles you can do a year
and you don't any NCB but the amount of years you have driven without claiming is sometimes recognised
