All UK MPi 1997> models were fitted with the 2.7:1 Final Drive to reduce driveby noise and improve motorway crusing comfort.

The KAD 5 speed box is £2898 and the JDK or KAD 6 speed is NLA

The KAD 5 speed is a racing box with close ratios, tall first, 1:1 fourth and straigt cut gears. This will not improve your driving comfort .

You could consider fitting 'Economy' transfer gears, this should reduce down the gearing a little at not much extra cost.

60mph at 2800rpm >_< mine does 60 mph at 4000rpm :dontgetit:

Nice one. What engine have you got in that, is it the bike head?

Thanks for all the advice, where can i get these 'economy' gears from and will they affect my acceleration? Mine is a stage 4 so its aaaaaallll about the acceleration, lol.

You cannot have both unless you go for the five speed im afraid. You either want comfort or acceleration, one comes at the expense of the other. If you are dissapointed that the 2.7:1 final drive is not giving you what you want, I think you would be dissapointed with the five speed box for the expendature.

Yes that is the BMW bike head and the final drive is 3.65:1. With a little over 100bhp without nitrous its quick, but with 40hp of nitrous, its insane. However, I am fitting a turbo in the new year so I expect somewhere around 180hp all the time >_< with the 3.74:1 final drive :dontgetit: Motorway driving is so boring, i just dont use them when we are in the Mini. Makes life a whole lot more interesting.

Yeah thats what I though you might say, shame. I will just have to rev it a little more.

That will be awesome! I would like to supercharge mine in a year or so i think.

Thanks for the help!

I changed my 2.7 for a 2.9 when my gearbox gave up a while back as I to do enough motorway miles and this returns a sedate 75mph @ 3500rpm but I also enjoy good acceleration thanks mainly to the mpis' impressive power band and as 2nd takes me up to a breath away from 60 it can leave plenty behind as they take time to change gears. I also have a quaiffe in it and can really recommend these for their ease of fitting and lifetime guarantee but the corner exit you get is unreal.

If you want acceleration without ear splitting revs you need torque. You could fit a turbo or charger for less than a 5 speed box.
