Hey all,

Just wanting a bit of advice as to what this paint defect was called and caused by?

It was fine a week ago, when it was fresh but now it looks almost like leather!

that looks like a chemical reaction in the paint probable caused by whatever you painted over.

also tell them to sand it properly because you can see all the sanding marks in the paint

Looks like the 'orange peel' effect & again just in-proper painting techniques.

How much did you pay for the whole lot?

Name & shame.

Might just be a one off, maybe an inexperienced worker did the work. But otherwise people are gonna give away there hard earned cash for something that's not up to scratch.

I dont think it has got to that stage yet, the paint problems are minor compared to the rest. The bodyshop and I are working on a solution but in the meantime i thought i would just get advice as to what the paint problems are called and to confirm that there actually is a problem, as for the rest of the car i am aware of the problems.

From the pics in the first post looks like they gone mad with sanding down primer (if they sprayed primer...i have doubts)
In the shades i see some reticulation, caused by paint reaction, it happens if you paint over the old coats without isolatating it properly, or if the surface wasnt degreased before applying the top coats.
Usually happens with rattle cans painting without applying bar coat before.
Contact the garage, asking to sort it out.

Sinkage. Caused by using a too coarse grit to abrade the surface underneath, and using no or very little primer, or priming, and prepping with paper too coarse. With most spray jobs you will get orange peel, it should be polished out if it's that bad, although saying that, I've seen worse on cars from the factory. No bodyshop should be able to get away with putting a car out looking like that, you should definitely bring it back and give them a chance to rectify it, if they don't, then demand a refund. If they don't do that, then threaten legal action, usually does the job :)
