i want to drop the compression ratio to about 8.5 to 1. blocks being measured at the mo, and hopefully wont need a rebore. my question is, can enough material be removed from the head chambers to drop the cr this far, or will the pistons have to re-dished as well?

im using 11cc dished pistons with a 29cc head giving me 8:1, i think standard turbo pistons are about 12cc so yeah 8.5:1 will be no probs with head work alone.

Low CR = silly boost pressures
High CR = dicing with detonation
Some where inbetween = reliability
Depends what yo want and how often you want to rebuild.
