yep deffo thats the cheapest ive seen, i think its best to get it converted but some people ive talked to said just add the stuff to the petrol but in the long run its going to be cheaper to get the part

I text the guy just after I bought mine asking if he knew if it was unleaded and he said yes, but it wasnt his car! He was selling it for his grandma and he didnt seem to know anything about minis! He asked me if I knew they had quite a big following!

If you need to know if your engine is leaded or unleaded, drop the number into this and it'll tell you... well it'll tell you if it was when it came out of the factory...
http://www.guess-wor...ical/engine.htm
If it does not specifically say 95 RON Unleaded, then it did not come out of the factory ready to run unleaded fuel..

Would you buy something from a place which cannot be bothered to actually spell COMPONENTS correctly ???
and why are 998 gearboxes cheaper than 1275 ? as they are the same...

Where is the sanity here. "Will it run on unleaded?" Absolutely!!!!! The fear (and myth) is that running a "leaded" engine on unleaded fuel with result in damage to the valve seats. The other oncern is lead, or higher octane fuel, is needed with high compression, high performance engines to prevent pinging (pre-ignition) that can cause problems with the pistons. Being a 998, unless you have it built to the hilt, it doesn't fall in the latter category of concern. The difference between a "leaded" and "unleaded" head to combat valve seat recession is hardened valve seats. But I have to say that in 30 years of mini owning and driving (all pre 68 minis over here in the god ole US of A), I have never had a cylinder head upgraded and I have never had a failure. A 998 mini, even if driven hard, doesn't tax the materials in the standard valve seats. My opinion is that you don't have anything to worry about. Just put unleaded gas in, drive it and have fun. I am continually miffed by the hype over lead addatives.

I'm really confused now by all this petrol stuff. Like Sarah I had no idea any cars still ran on leaded petrol!
So for the absolute novice over here (as in, I don't even have a driving licence yet!) is the difference between leaded and unleaded petrol that important? Should I be using an additive? I don't want to bust anything. I just filled up with half a tank of unleaded today. :/
