Hey,

Uhmm, My xbox has been broken for a while (3 red lights) its still covered under the warranty, and ive organized with UPS for it to be picked up tommorow and taken to xbox HQ :(.

Thing is When i first got it i stupidly left it on while updating and went out and, when i came back the case had melted ... Not badly, but the back has come apart. I guess it could look like ive been tampering with it, but i havnt. Are they likely to fix it? Or send it straight back?

Thanks,
Craig ;)

Ermm about that situation I'm not sure... But my mates xbox broke in the usual way (the three red rings) and he fixed his yesterday for about £5. You just need a special srew driver and some bolts. If anyone wants to know i'll explain why they break.. or at least the most common reason

:(

That'd be good mate, just incase they do send it back. isnt somthing to do with Lead (?) free solder that they use metls? But it apeears to be a Hardware failure as its bottom right recently, too.

Yeah well basically the bracket the gpu is held down with is really bad and the heatsink bends up which allows the gpu to move out of place breaking the solder points. So you use a T8 screw driver to take out the rubbish bracket and just screw the gpu driectly to the unit. Turn the xbox on WITHOUT the fan in so it gets really hot. This melts the solder points and they re connect. Then put the fan back in. Sounds confusing but if you take it apart it all makes a lot more sense!!:(

to add, have you had your xbox stood up? looks good but the main air intake is on the bottom when its stood up, therefore gets blocked by the floor :( lay it down so it's now to the right and you'll have better air circulation. Plus when its stood up the two biggest creators of heat are now at the top, heat rises and gets trapped in the small space there, where there's is little ventilation.

id have took it back to the retailer.

You are covered under EU regs, which means the retailer is liable for a faulty product and should repair it,replace it or refund as required. I think its for upto 6yrs, so non of this 12months return to manufactuer warrenty they will try to fob you off with.

Guy i know had his tv replaced after it broke. it was nearly 3years old, he kept reciept. Took it back to the retailer and they said it was out of warrenty etc. He went back armed with the EU legislation and they offered him credit 2/3's of the value.

Search the towel trick on youtube that worked once for me
Or you could write a note in saying how it happened maybe?

I dont have the recipt anymore unfortunatly Jordie ;).

I did the old towel trick with my Elite before i sold it Bradley :( it did work but only for a few days when i had to repeat the process. This seems to be hardware failure as oppsed to the normal 3 red lights, though, as its the bottom right light too.

Perhaps i should write a note actually, what should i write on it though? They could say that i caused the damage myself by letting it burn
