Yes it can be done and done well I have seen a VW golf GTI in a mini a Mini's in the park. 5/6 years ago.
This was in a bell nose covertable, mostly stainless in a matalic grey and 13 inch wheels.
Maybe somone knows this guy?

right after along time at a stand still, the project has just moved on leaps and bounds, i've scrapped the original 1973 shell, due to requiring too much work, so i have just purchassed this shell off ebay

which puts me allot further along, and has inspired me to start workin on it again, the concept of designing and building the cage was a bit daunting to be honest now that weights off my shoulders i can start ordering the box section for my chassis, and start building it again wohoo!!
now i just got the small task of driving to Wales and back to pick up my new shell
