Model: mayfair
Year: 1989

My wheel bearing went the other day, so i changed it when i took it out for a drive it was clicking loudly when turning right and slowing down, so i thought to myself that i washed all the grease out with wd40 when gettign the hub back on, so i just got it re-greased and i thought this would solve the problem, but it hasnt, so im guessing its not the wheel bearing.. so what could cause the clicking when i turn right and slow down??

Any help appreciated

Cheers luke.

Hmm, are they hard to change and are they expensive?

Hub off, driveshaft out (I take it out, just cut the clip on the inner cv gaitor), cut clip on the outer cv gaitor, hammer (hard) the cv off the joint, pack new cv with grease, fit new gaitor, push cv on, reassemble.

Yep, that sounds like CV joint.

And here's a thread about the cost and some links: http://www.theminifo...x...=137340&hl=

I did my CV joint at the same time as replacing the CV boot for the MOT recently.
CV joint kit was just under £25 from minispares if I remember rightly.
Easy job really...

When it comes to removing the CV joint, it has a circlip inside that keeps it on.
You have to whack it pretty hard to get it to pop off the drive shaft (while holding the drive shaft in the inner pot joint with the other hand.)
Hit the INNER part of the joint where the bearings are and hit it hard (you don't care about it as you're replacing it...)

Stuff it full of grease and use a new boot and metal clips.
Winner!

Clamp the driveshaft with some mole grips on the inside of the subframe near the pot joint,
that will make sure the pot joint dont come out of the gearbox and spill oil all over ya drive when ya take the cv off >_<

That's a good idea. I like that. Better than mine.
Can you picture me holding the [very greasy as the boot had split] drive shaft in one hand and whacking the cv joint with the other?
In the semi dark as my garage has no power?

>_<

Cheers people, will the cv joints be different for different years of cars, or will the difference just be between disc and drum braked cars??

And will the car still be ok to go drive (not far) like this??

Cheers luke

i've been driving minewith a nakered o/s cv joint since the Riv Run. I went to IMM to so it's probably done about 1000miles. All that will happen whan it goes is you will lose drive, so make sure you have your breakdown card with you.

Must remember to get myself a new one ordered.
