By the sounds of it they heat the tyre up a lot, which to me sounds dam right dangerous, as too much heat will change the compound and state of the material in the tyre. And to get tyres to stretch with heat they are going to have to heat them up a lot. Can we get this topic pinned to avoid more people being stitched up?

They obviously haven't heard of E.T.R.T.O. in China.

MWS might like to send a copy of the tyre and rim specs out there. If they really gave a damn that is.

Now I think about it, Lund on here had some MWS wheels that he couldnt get tyres on. When he got the old ones off that had been fitted by MWS they'd got damage on the inside of the tyre, so they can't fit them properly either.

Speak to trading standards for confirmation, but IMO anyone would have a very strong case for a refund. Its completely unacceptable to buy new wheels and tyres only to find later that only 1 garage in the country is able to change the tyres. The Sale Of Goods Act will cover this, as the wheels are very obviously not fit for their purpose.

not been funny ere but they got tyres to fit didnt they without damaging wheels? i had a polo g40 with deep dish rim and 45 profile tyres were a pain as so tight, but once i found a tyre fitter that was good with the right equipment they slid on easy

Not being funny but its not damaging the wheel Iam worried about its damaging the bead of the tyre! Which if you know any thing about fitting of tyres and structure of tyres! Could cause a blow out or budging of the tyre! The bead of a tyre is steel reinforced with a metal strands to keep the tyre from just popping off the rim so the inner diameter doesn't stretch so you carn't just stretch them to fit

not going to let them get away with selling wheels that you carnt fit tyres to! will see him at every show and request my money back untill he does!! and going to write to mini word and mini mag!!

Too right, this kind of thing has been a source of annoyance to me for many years, why can't people manufacture wheels with the correct dimensions? Just because MWS can fit tyres to these wheels, it doesn't make everything right, there are safety & trading standards issues here. If a trained tyre fitter with modern equipment can't fit them, something is badly wrong. A customer living in Scotland, for instance, cannot reasonably be expected to travel to MWS every time he needs a couple of new tyres, or has a puncture, so the argument that if "MWS can fit tyres the wheels are not inferior" falls flat, that would be like me selling someone a car that only I can drive, I'd soon be in court!

Any ideas if other MWS rims are affected by this, I've got a set of four 6x10 gold deep dish minilite style from MWS that I bought new approx 6 years ago, on my cooper project and will need to replace the tyres before it goes back on the road

Mws fail to admit there's a problem because they'll have to give EVERYONE a full refund who has bought them but rightly so as they are useless if you cant get tyres on them and not fit for purpose!

On those alloys, the tyres need to be taken off, and fitted with the outside of the wheel (spokes etc) facing down. So backwards to how they're normally fitted.

This will make it A LOT easier to fit/remove them. I've done it countless times at work without even a scratch on the wheel!

When you go to get them done, have a look at their machine. Our one has another arm that you can press the bead of the tyre down, then as you turn the table to fit it, the arm holds the bead down, stopping it from ripping.
We also have plastic guards for alloy wheels too, ask if they have those, if so, make sure they use them!

If anyone's near Buckingham, Milton Keynes way, I'd happily fit them for you. I'm at Just Tyres in Buckingham.

thats handy to know as i've got some tyres that need fitting to some rims that i've been meaning to do for the project, seeing as i can no longer do them myself at the place i last worked at Woburn.

our tyre machine at work wont even take 10 inch wheels, only just about copes with the 12 inch wheels i have on the car at the moment. that might be why a lot of garages wont touch 10 inch wheels, their machines wont go small enough (i know a lot of modern wheel balancers wont accept a 10 inch wheel anymore). Last time i had a set of wheels from MWS i just ended up binning them, all i fit now is minilites, revolutions and performance ultralites. all the mws wheels are copies from what i can tell, best to buy from the manufacturer that way youre guaranteed to get genuine wheels.
