Heheheh. Cheers Pitcrew  This one's a white 'City' with the full-face bumper, think it's a Mk2. It's going to be scrutinised by Mark, my tame ex-Longbridge mechanic, if he says walk, walk we shall!

Wow - that's a serious insurance quote. :P

Metro's are really just Mini's in fat suits - they rust like Minis too (but Mini's still outlasted them in production  )

As you know, the oily bits are pretty much the same as Minis; it's the hydrolastic suspension that's the main difference.

Bodily, from what I recall of the rust on my first car (Mk1 MG Metro), they rust:

. along the bottom of the front valance
. along the bottom of the rear valance
. down the front wings about 3 inches back from the headlight (headlight mounting panel)
. under the front wings where they bolt onto the inner wings
. in the front footwells (over the jacking points)
. where the main rear subframe mounts bolt on.

Like I said - just a Mini in a fat suit!

If it doesn't pass the MOT you could break it and probably get more than your money back.
I saw a 998cc metro engine go for over £130 on ebay a while back (included all ancillaries, carb etc) think it had about 70K on it.
I'd buy it for that price!

Miniman.Matt, please don't jump to conclusions like that. If you must have a reason for the price then it's as follows: He's a new driver, pass-plus in hand & NO POINTS. 22y/o, post code isn't that brill and the insurance companies are penalising him for having learning disabilities and not working due to that disability by their own admission.

The minute you put in you've had to declare a disability of any kind to the DVLA and you're unemployed as a result of it, the insurance prices go through the roof. It's extremely unfair on people with similar difficulties, but he has to make his situation known by law or any policy he takes out is invalidated. *FUMES*

D'oh.... missed the Metro. Went last night apparently but we've found a much nicer Rover 100 a lot closer to home. Slightly more £££ but it has T&T and is half the age of the Metro for the same cost in insurance so we're going to have a nosey tonight!

:) Come Sunday a BRG Rover 100 Ascot will be added to the parking area at the front of our house.
In 6 weeks time, it will be fully under the control of my Bro :)

£475 TNT, it really is in immaculate condition. Very little rust for its age!! :D

Shame, I love a-series engined Metros.

I've had loads, Vanden plas/MG/vans etc. Great little cars, ace fun to drive.

Never driven a 100 yet, I do have a huge soft spot for Rovers though, great cars and very underated, again had loads.

It was really smooth. Lovely sound to it :D Light as a Mini to drive to be honest and VERY nippy!

Only things it needs are a new stereo, a rear light lens as it's got odd ones at the moment and a little attention to the handbreak - it works, but sticks slightly.

Well, The Green Goblin is now parked outside his new home awaiting a full wash and brush up tomorrow from my bro!

To Do List:

Sort out rust near sunroof
Spray up scuff on bumper
Spray up new rear arches
Deal with little dent and scratch on bonnet
Replace mismatched light cluster at rear
Get handbrake adjusted
Service

All in all, a VERY small to do list for a 12 y/o Metro!

love them , i had the 1.4 gta 16v. couldnt afford to insure the gti model. only got rid of it when we had kids. (get some good security on it tho, real easy to steel), thats all the little joyriders seem to have round our way.. would be wise to have cambelt changed aswell.

simon.
